🔴⚫ THE ALEX WAY — IN LIVING COLOUR

They lost 10–2.

And yet this might be one of our favourite messages from the weekend.

Alexandra United Whites began their league season today with just nine players.

No excuses. No throwing in the towel. They pulled on the shirt, crossed the white line and gave everything they had.

The final score was 10–2 to the opposition.

And afterwards, completely unsolicited, this message arrived from the league:

“The League have received some heart warming comments regarding your new team Alexandra United Whites… despite their shortage of numbers [they] gave it their best shot. All credit to them in the spirit of grassroots football.”

After losing 10–2.

That matters.

Because we talk a lot at Alexandra United about The Alex Way — respect, responsibility and sportsmanship; representing the badge properly whether you’re winning, losing or somewhere in between.

But perhaps the best moment of the afternoon showed that those values don’t belong to one club.

Making his debut for the Whites was George Taylor, who marked the occasion by scoring an absolute worldie.

And when George celebrated, members of the opposition joined in and celebrated with him.

Two teams. One of them heavily beaten. Still competing. Still enjoying football. Still recognising a great moment when they saw one.

That’s grassroots football.

The scoreline will go into the record books as 10–2.

But we’d argue there were considerably more important things to take home from this one.

Nine players who refused to give up.

Opponents who understood that you can compete without losing sight of why we all play the game.

And a league that took the time to recognise it.

And huge credit to their opponents for playing their part in a pretty special afternoon of grassroots football. 👏⚽

Well… nobody can accuse us of only posting when we win. 😂

Now, we could quietly lose the results sheet and pretend today never happened…

But where’s the fun in that? 😂

The U9 Lynxes discovered that Twickenham Saints have a player called Zidane who was apparently, and we quote, “mustard.” 🌭😂

The U15 Warriors played their first ever 11v11 match, without a recognised goalkeeper, and got their first taste of what the bigger pitch has in store.

The Mambas picked up a point.

And across the club, hundreds of Alex players pulled on the shirt, got back on a football pitch and started another season together.

Some Saturdays you score five.

Some Saturdays you concede five.

Occasionally you meet Zidane and concede fourteen. 🤷‍♂️😂

Results happen.

We celebrate the wins, learn from the defeats, enjoy the football and come back again next week.

Because one Saturday in September doesn’t define a season.

New men’s Sunday league football team looking for players.

This is more than sponsorship.

It’s two local sporting organisations coming together with the same belief — that giving young people opportunity, encouragement and somewhere to belong can make a genuine difference.

Young Arrows are a JDC-affiliated junior darts academy, developing the next generation of players through coaching, competition and, above all, a love of their sport.
