Topsham Sunday XI played their second game of the season against Bridford Village Cricket Club (BVCC). It was a nice sunny afternoon and everyone was ready for a good game of cricket.
Topsham were bowling first and this brought to the crease a very young but talented bowling attack. The innings started brightly for Topsham with Rohan Chowtee picking up 2 wickets early on. Bridford recovered to score at a good rate as plenty of bowlers bowled well without reward. New signing Jamie Bach managed get 2 wickets with his leg spin in the middle order. Eventually wickets fell at the back end of the innings with Hugo Wilcock grabbing 1, Rohan was the pick of the bowlers though with his first 5-fer for the club. Bridford posted a very competitive 207-9 off their 35 overs.
The highlight of the day was the tea provided in the break. Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were on offer along with more variations of cakes and sweet treats than anyone could imagine. It gets a 5-star review from all involved.
Topsham looked to improve on their batting after a low total against a Uni side from 2 weeks ago. It was looking positive early on as Mustavi Emdad scored 44 and Matt Reeves contributed with 23. A couple of quick wickets fell though to leave the away side at 95/6. Topsham knew they had firepower down the order with Hugo Wilcock scoring 39 with some great shots, ably supported by Jamie Bach’s 24 not out. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Topsham score 185/9 in the end.
Although it wasn’t the result Topsham wanted, it was a great day out with everyone from both sides playing the game in the right spirits. The future looks very bright for the club with 7 of todays side being 18 or under.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - WEEK 5

Despite disappointing results this week, we are still keen to recognize the performances of the players turning up week in week out and putting in a shift when needed.

This weeks 1st XI player of the week is Dec Wardell, sponsored by How On Earth. Dec took 4 wickets in the first innings and got the chase off to a steady start with 32 runs off the bat.

The 2nd team player of the week is Jamie Rose, sponsored by Footgolf Devon. Jamie was excellent in the field and scored a well earned 51 despite a very tricky wicket and wickets tumbling around him. Jamie dedicated his batting performance to his Grandad.

MATCH RESULT - WEEK 5
It was a tough day for the club yesterday as both teams took to the field in the sweltering heat.
The 1st XI took on at home and lost by 71 runs to the visiting team. The home side came away with 9 points which could prove pivotal towards the end of the season.
The 2nd team traveled to and also unfortunately lost by 83 runs. Taking 8 points which will be vital in the title chase later in the season

The 1st XI take on at home, a team we haven't faced since August 2022. A game in which our chairman Matt Williams scored an impressive 61 runs before being runout, and this seasons new captain Dec Wardell took an almighty 6 wickets for 34 runs!

The 2nd XI take on current league leaders 3rd XI, who gained promotion last season and currently alongside us remain unbeaten this season. Our 2s aim to knock Upottery off the top spot with this top of the table clash as we see the return of Neil Shillabeer from his time off having his first child. Congrats Neil. It also sees the return of Adam Cooper into the side.

Results from week 4 are in with both teams taking the win in low scoring games!

The 1st XI took an 8 wicket win against Whimple Cricket Club in a typically low scoring match for the two local rivals.

The 2nd XI took a 3 wicket win away to Abbotskerswell 3rd XI

Both wins have pushed both teams up the respective tables this week
