Our friendly on Sunday was in memory of Royal Oak FC's former manager, Kev Carver. We are delighted to share the fundraising event raised a staggering £2720.18 for Cherrybrook Ward, a specialist day case unit providing chemotherapy and cancer care at Exeter Hospital. 👏🏻

Royal Oak 4-3 Christow Palace
Great fun even in the 30° heat. Had a few trialists with us today, including the former Forest Green Rovers captain in defence who's looking to earn a contract for next season.
Royal Oak started stronger and threatened with wide balls into the box. We grew into it and played some nice football. Harry E hit the crossbar and Ben shot wide when through one-on-one. Royal Oak took the lead with a stinging shot into the top corner from the right channel. 1-0 at half time
We equalised early second half when Harry E was a menace yet again to the back line. A simple ball up from the keeper had him through on goal and he finished at the second attempt. 1-1
We were on top for large parts of the second half but Royal Oak capitalised on some space at the back and a bad reffing decision. First they went 2-1 up despite our keeper making a great first save. Then Angus was penalised for handball despite the ball hitting his shoulder. 3-1 to Royal Oak from the spot. A crazy five minutes then saw them 4-1 up.
Tristan was tripped up in the area so he could bag his first goal for Christow from the spot. 4-2
In the last two minutes, Ben's young lad came on and nutmegged the keeper for 4-3 with the last kick.
Look forward to seeing lots of you at our social at the Nobody Inn in Doddi - Friday 5th June. Tristan will handle the 7-a-side tournament in July. So I'll next arrange a game for August when we will play a preseason friendly.

MATCH REPORT: Christow Palace 6-6 Shiphay Wanderers
A classic to end our league campaign.
We struggled with set pieces today and went 0-1 down from one. We were better passing the ball about today, and a ball forward was handled by a Shiphay defender - Adam stepped up to convert the penalty for 1-1.
A long ball forward caused mayhem and Harry E composed himself to score our second at the second attempt. 2-1
A corner for Shiphay was headed towards goal but Michael stuck out a knee to clear it off the line, but more set piece headaches just after had us back down to 2-3, but Dave smashed in a bouncing ball in the penalty area to make it 3-3. Matt nearly put us in front but clipped the cross bar with a strike from distance.
With the last kick of the half, form a corner, John G headed in an own goal on his debut, which - in true Sunday league fashion - flew through a hole in the net! 3-4 at half time.
We were down hill second half and we had the majority of the play. Charles pounced on a ball forward and made it 4-4. We continued to create chances but shots flew over the bar. A corner of our own led to another own goal, but this time in our favour for 5-4. Shortly after a long ball forward was flicked on by Harry E for Charles to round the keeper and score another. 6-4
James C chipped the keeper but a Shiphay defender was on the line to clear away. Then a chaotic end saw two quick fire goals for Shiphay, including one that I'm hoping Tristan proves in his match recording was offside 📸
We deserved to win based on our second half performance. Another new look back three today consisting of a no-nonsense Oli with a solid Tristan and John G performed well.

Ide Green Rovers 4-2 Christow Palace
What a game for the neutral, but we left Ide frustrated. Good fun in the sun regardless ☀️
We were down to a squad of 12 but all the lads put in a great shift. We set up with our 3-5-2.
A tight game in the first half saw us go 0-1 up. Tom centred for Harry E to tap in. We rode our luck towards the end of the half, with Ide hitting the upright.
Second half we passed the ball better. Baz hit the bar with a header from a set piece. We were caught offside a few times. Ide then put the pressure on, and after a fourth successive corner, a player on the edge of the box turned and buried it...1-1
Not long after, Aaron fed Charles for a classic run on goal and finish into the bottom corner. 1-2
We couldn't make the most of our counter attacks to make it three. We struggled to keep the ball at our feet. The game started to go end to end and Ide piled forward. Rich and Michael both cleared hairy moments, Ricky made an epic save, and their striker missed a sitter. Eventually, they scored. A scramble in the box led to a sliced shot that went in...2-2
Baz went down injured, and Aaron brought down their pacey winger for a penalty. Up stepped their player from the spot but Ricky saved brilliantly.
Ide didn't let up though. A cross found a man at the back post. 3-2
Finally, Ide scored a fourth, which was offside but the ref didn't accept the linesman's call. 4-2
Thanks to the mighty squad of 12 today. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 We go again next Sunday at home to Shiphay and we have a friendly the Sunday after.
MOTM was Ricky for all his epic saves!

💜⚽Christow were runners-up today in our first ever cup competition run by the FA
An exciting day of football against other local teams.
Christow 0-2 Shaldon
Christow 2-0 Sharpham
Christow 1-0 Ide
Dave scored all three of our goals, rounding the keeper for the first, a header from a corner for the second, and a strike from distance for the third.
In the final we lost 5-0 to Shaldon as legs grew weary following two hours of football with a thin squad.
We are proud of all the boys making some club history after a long day of football 👌🏻

Match report: Ide Green Rovers 2-4 Christow Palace
A smashing performance from every player. We kept Ide at bay for most of the game. Just one sticky patch when we were 0-3 up and they brought it back to 2-3.
Dave bagged the first goal with a strike from distance which bounced away from the keeper. We had lots of joy with through balls and pace today. Aaron was played through on goal and he finished with aplomb for 0-2. The 5-2-3 worked a treat with Tristan, John and Dan seeing away all of the danger, including big headers and last ditch tackles when players broke through. 💪0-2 at HT.
Second half began positively. James N made it 0-3 before Ben hit the bar from a corner. Aaron could also have made it four but his shot was blocked off the line.
Ide mounted a comeback to bring it back to 2-3 but Christow rode the challenge and started to make more chances of their own. Charles rounded the keeper to make it 2-4 in the dying moments of the game.
Well done all!!!!! 💜
MOTM was Dave for an all-round performance - a goal, an assist, and forward runs from midfield.

Christow Palace 3-7 Shaldon Villa
We started first half downhill with Tristan up top. Against the run of play we went 0-1 down. After some good attacking play down the left side, we scored 2 goals in 2 minutes. First, a cross in from Dan caused mayhem and an OG. Then Wayne B passed from the left wing to set up James N for a good strike. 2-1 Christow.
We were pushing for a third before half time, but just before the break, there was a contentious decision when the ball was picked up by a Shaldon player before it went for a corner, which they then scored from. 2-2 at HT. A big blow that we didn't deserve.
We were down to no subs for much of the second half with Tristan hobbling off. Like last week, we had to go for the win up against it. A few goals for Shaldon had us 2-5 down - including a penalty decision against James L when a ball hit his arm even though it was by his side.
We scored to make it 3-5 when Matt was taken down to give us our own penalty, which Adam converted.
Ricky was kicked when playing hot potato on his own goalline, but the ref didn't spot it and it was 3-6, before Michael blocked a shot only for it to loop over our goalie's head to finish the game off... 3-7.
MOTM: Dan for some top defending especially when we were stretched at the back.
