Also focusing on not being hunched and tense in other muscles (traps etc.) that should be relaxed during certain exercises.

How can physical activity help my mental health?
There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. For example, it can help with:
Betterย sleepย โ by making you feel more tired at the end of the day
Happier moodsย โ physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy
Managingย stress,ย anxietyย or intrusive and racing thoughtsย โ doing something physical releases cortisol which helps us manage stress.

People always ask me how I stay motivated and honestly it's because I really enjoy the training I do.
There are definitely some days where I can't be arsed but I remind myself that it's going to make me feel so good and it's going to help me reach my goals.
I chose this lifestyle and it's just what I need to do to feel happy.
Here are a few tips to help you to stay motivated:

๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฆ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ฃ๐จ๐ฒ.
What's the point in doing something you hate? Life is too short. There are so many methods of training/types of sport or workouts out there.
You've just gotta find what's right for you.
โข ๐๐๐ญ ๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ ๐ ๐จ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ.
This is a common tip that all PTs/coaches will tell you but it's an important one. It's so easy to overreach and aim for something massive but it can be off-putting when your goals seem a million miles away.
Think little and often. Chip away at those smaller goals and the bigger ones will eventually come.
Even the smallest achievement can bring you a sense of accomplishment and motivate you to keep going.

During rest days, the body has a chance to remove excess lactate from the muscles. This helps to alleviate muscle pain and soreness.

Exercise creates microscopic tears in muscle tissue. During rest days, cells repair and build up the muscle tissue.
๐๐๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ฒโ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฌ: Glycogen is a form of energy stored in muscles. Exercise depletes glycogen levels, which leads to muscle fatigue. Rest days allow the muscles to replenish their glycogen stores, as a result reducing muscle fatigue and preparing the muscles for their next workout.

Overexercising puts repetitive stress and strain on the muscles, increasing the risk of injury.

Creating a schedule and planning your rest days makes training more manageable. It can push you to work so much harder knowing you have a day of rest coming up.

WHAT BUILDS GOOD HABITS?
First off, it's making sure you show up.
'80 percent of success in life is just showing up' someone said that. I dunno who lol.
But it's so true!! You're not going to succeed if your not even showing up to work on developing good habits. Kinda goes without saying right?
Showing up means to be present in more than one way. Itโs about being there, consistently, for the things that matter to you.
Showing up for yourself by pursuing your goals.
If you're struggling to actually get to the gym, don't plan large complex workouts.
The key is not to be perfect, but to simply show up. When you take even the smallest step towards building a new habit, you can shape your life.
Especially when you're finding it difficult to go to the gym. Don't focus so much on what you're going to do when you're at the gym, just get there!
Tell yourself you're only going to do 20 minutes. You'll know that'll it'll be over quickly, so you'll feel reassured that you'll be able to get it done and go home.
It's not the 20 minute workout itself that develops the habit. It's constantly showing up to do it which builds it.
You reduce your resistance to building new habits over time, and the new habit becomes part of what you do and who you are.
Once you start picking up your workout stuff and showing up to the gym without even thinking about it, you can begin to work on bigger and better things.

๐ Should you go on a strict diet? ๐
Well, are you training for something specific which requires you to go on a strict diet?
If not, then NO!
You do not need to go on a boring, restrictive diet to achieve general fitness goals like fat loss, strength or endurance.
You'll probably need to think about weather you should be in a calorie deficit, maintenance or surplus but that's a post for another time.
It's all about balance.
Eat wholesome foods that taste good and make you feel good.
Eat to fuel your body.
Allow yourself to have a treat. What's the point if you can't enjoy things?
If you don't like something, don't force yourself to eat it. I hate brown rice. You will not catch me eating it.
Discover recipes for healthier versions of the foods you love. There's thousands of recipes on Instagram and YouTube made by normal people who love to make content about good food. Use it!
There's no need to eat the same boring diet to achieve your goals. Keep it balanced, smash your training, rest and recover and your progress will flow ๐
