Today's yay!! An early start for me, waking up WAY before my alarm because I was so worried I'd sleep through it... but it was worth it!

Well done Christian for passing this morning with just a handful of faults. You worked hard to achieve this, and you totally deserve it. Even one of Exeter's brand new examiners said you drove well.

Good luck with your apprenticeship and thank you for choosing me to finish off your learner driving. Wave when you see me!!!

No one denies it's expensive to learn how to drive, but it is fairly comparative

People often focus on the price of lessons, but what really matters is affordability relative to income.

In your example:
• Weekly wage: £30
• Lesson cost: £12
• That’s 40% of your weekly income (nearly half, not just a third)

Compare that to today:
• If someone earns, say, £400–£500 a week
• And a lesson is £40–£45
• That’s around 8–11% of weekly income

So even though lessons look more expensive now, they’re often much more affordable proportionally than they used to be.

Today's yay is to Ella! Well done for passing your test this afternoon, at Newton Abbot, with only a small smattering of driver faults. I was sitting in on the test and held my breath on one very unexpectedly tight turning involving a wall but you handled it like a pro!!

I've known Ella since she was but a babe so it's been a particular pleasure to teach you and see you reach this milestone.

Cody has now driven for 12 hours. He wanted to give bay parking a go. He said he didn't think he would master it today but wanted to see how it was.

This was his fourth reverse bay attempt, with no help from me. I think this is pretty impressive!

What a way to say that a little bit of rain (torrential at one point) was not going to get in your way! A fabulous pass with just one tiny little driver fault for a stall!!!!

To say you were a reluctant driver is probably an understatement but the minute you realised that a) you knew what you were doing and b) you had a purpose to actually get a licence, there was nothing stopping you!

Brad lives in Exeter but is doing an apprenticeship in Taunton so this is going to make his life so much easier, and thankfully didn't let a tiny little thing like a named storm get in his way.
