💚SUNDAY FUNDAY - 24/10/2021💚
This week another great match against West Exe Park Rangers at Topsham! 💚💚💚
After the usual train & trek to get there we arrived to a completely empty car park and pitch. Despite worries the game was cancelled (note to self: check emails) we trooped to the changing rooms for some Justin Bieber ( ’there). Then out into the drizzle ( ) for a warm up with still no sign of the other team or the referee. Eventually everyone arrived ( ) and after a quick waka everyone was straight into the game!

After a great start to the match, maintaining possession and keeping the ball within their half, a sudden counter-attack from West Exe meant we began to concede. Throughout the half, despite an amazing effort from the defensive team, fantastic blocks and saves from Chloe and the midfields commitment to getting the ball back in their half, the goals from West Exe kept coming. However West Exe definitely felt threatened as their overaggressive tackling meant free kick after free kick given in Exe’s favour, and eventually a penalty. Moose’s shot was well-placed and had the power but was unable to make it past their goalie. And then out of nowhere, a brilliant run straight down the middle and an amazing strike from Simran made it straight to the back of the net, securing our first Exeter goal
🎉🎉🎉. Exe continued to fight hard for the entire half and even at half time when we were unsure whether the score was in double digits or not (it wasn’t) everyone had their heads up and big smiles on their faces!

After completely committing to a save and making a brilliant block, just before half time Chloe had an injured wrist, meaning Katie T was drafted in once again but as usual was absolutely brilliant with no complaints ( ?). Straight into the second half Exeter continued to play incredibly with a brilliantly positive attitude despite the score. West Exe Park Rangers continued their pattern of overzealous tackles, taking Simran down in the box earning another penalty against their goalie. Simran’s cool but powerful finish (despite apparently being certain would miss) won Exeter their second well-deserved goal of the match
🎉🎉🎉! More questionable tackling from the West Exe players caused in a few injuries, with scraped knees for Poppy and Simran’s messed up shoulder, but the whole team kept their heads right up until the final whistle ( &EsoitsanEXEWIN). Running low on subs (and in some cases shin pads ? ) meant most people played a full 90 minutes, and everyone having absolutely given their all meant the team left the pitch exhausted but still in a great mood despite the loss. After cheers for the other team and a big team pic in the goal ( ) it was back to the changing rooms for Super Bass and JLS ( ).

Despite the score everyone still had a great time this week and everyone played fantastically and should be proud of their performance today! Looking forward to seeing everyone again next week for the match against Bradninch! Keep and eye out for the post! 💚💚💚

Player of the Match = Poppy for making so many amazing runs, with honourable mentions for Katie for stepping up to play goal right in the middle of the game
Gimp of the Match = Alicia for having no shin pads and being injured so needing them the most!

💚SUNDAY FUNDAY - 17/10/2021💚
Back again with another this week against Axminister 💚, and this was definitely an interesting one! After a bit of a drive (somehow Beth’s car got there first despite leaving last … ) we pulled up to Axminster’s grounds … only to see Beth deathly hungover lying on the car park floor (pictures attached). Getting into the changing rooms for the usual mixing and matching of kit, with shorts and shin pads all over and of course a little Dua Lipa and Jonas Brothers to get everyone pumped.

A quick team chat, a huddle and an and the game kicked off! Exe were straight in making an impact with effective passing and the seamless performance of the midfield, but it soon became clear Axminister weren’t messing around. A few early goals and Axminster were ahead, despite our obvious dominance of possession and continuous breaking through of their defence. Even with the amazing effort from both the defence and Zara in goal (not usual position) we continued to concede despite Exe consistently pushing back, providing fantastic chances on goal and opportunities up front as well as assisting the brilliant runs of the midfield.

Half time was the opportunity for a quick reshuffling of positions, subs for those who couldn’t breathe (freshers flu going strong ) trying to work out the score (apparently was 7-0) and of course a sweaty-Sunday-League pic for the facebook. Then right back at it again!

Throughout the game, despite amazing play by the defensive team , we continued to concede. Fantastic runs from Lauren and Simran continued to break Axminister’s defence, leading to questionable tackling, a handball and even a lost shoe (?) but unluckily no goals. An asthma attack and a somehow-not-foul resulting in bruised ribs meant a quick pause for a bit of Sunday League R&R . As the final whistle blew everyone kept their heads up and kept smiling, ignoring the score as all thoughts turned to the pints waiting in the bar. After some silly full-time team pics we trooped back to the changing room, blasting our tunes all the way. A shocking revelation from Tory asking “who is JLS” meant an obligatory “Everybody in Love” sing-a-long from the whole team (also if anyone knows what JLS stands for plz let us know). Then into the bar for many pints (“it was £1 and comes out of a bag🎉!” - Tory) and then off home for some well deserved rest!

Even though it wasn’t the we hoped for, everyone still had a great time and played absolutely phenomenally and everyone should be pleased and proud of how they played today! See you all again next week against West Exe Park Ranger! Look out for the post! 💚💚💚

Player of the Match = Most votes for to Lauren L for those endless runs, with honourable mentions to Tory for a phenomenal performance in defence and Zara for stepping up to play in goal

Gimp of Match = Beth Plummer for taking hungover to a whole new level

💚SUNDAY FUNDAY – 10/10/2021💚
(Sorry for the delay – still getting used to all this writing stuff)

Another SUNDAY FUNDAY match this week against Budleigh Salterton 1sts! After some Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber in the changing rooms everyone was ready for some quick warm up drills, a big team waka and then straight into the match for another !

We began strong, dominating possession of the ball and consistently keeping play within Budleigh’s half, however surprisingly Budleigh began to take an unlikely lead and we soon conceded a few unlucky goals early on. However, the midfield continued to run rings around their defence, with Chloe and Scotland making some phenomenal runs and providing the upfront team with opportunity after opportunity. A brilliant tackle by K***a (it was all ball right?) somehow awarded Budleigh a free kick, however a phenomenal save by Amy as keeper prevented another goal. We knew it was coming and finally an amazing strike from Chloe M ploughed into the back of the net, meaning we finished the first half 4-1 down but with our heads still high, ready to get right back in it!

After a quick halftime snack of Tangfastics from Iy (new role as Club Caterer?) it was back out into the second half, with everyone focused and ready to show Budleigh who’s boss … maybe a bit too ready with Scotland quickly receiving a yellow card for … dribbling? ( ) The second half carried on with Exeter bringing the pace and the fabulous footwork, winning challenges, and providing opportunities. Despite this frustratingly Budleigh still managed to break through the defence and continued to score despite Amy’s legendary performance in goal. A brilliant free kick taken by Chloe M almost won another goal but unluckily hit the woodwork, bouncing off the crossbar ( ). The second half also brought a visit from Swim and Sally to cheer on and support the team, as well as assist Iy’s ongoing beef with the line-o . Exeter narrowly dodged a second yellow card with Brian earning a stern chat from the ref but making up for it later with an absolutely stellar free kick buried in the net from just outside the box. Exeter continued to fight hard the rest of the game but it we ended 9-2 to Budleigh 1sts, then back into the changing rooms to drown our sorrows with Adele and Olivia Rodrigo .

The team played incredibly, especially those getting back into football or learning a new position, and everyone should be proud regardless of the score! Back again next week for another SUNDAY FUNDAY so keep an eye out for the Facebook post! 💚💚💚

Player of the match = most votes this week go to Amy W for making a million amazing saves as keeper!
Gimp of the match = Scotland for getting a yellow card and fine

Alsooooo thank you to Iy for taking photos of the match!!!

💚SUNDAY FUNDAY 03/10/2021💚
This Sunday Funday was a bit wet and windy, but everyone came out and absolutely gave their all, despite it chucking it down. After a bit of a drive (three cheers for the drivers 🎉), we pulled up to Seaton and crammed into the very cosy changing rooms. Back out for a quick warm up and some shots on goal, trying not to be intimidated by the Seaton team warming up next to us or the huge dark cloud rolling over the hill.

And off we went! With everyone excited and ready for another the passes were quick, the tackles hard and the rain absolutely pouring. However, everyone gave their all and even after conceding one goal were determined to stay in it. We began to bring it back with a brilliant goal from Swim blasting the back of the net, assisted by the back of a Seaton player. After many shots, some on goal, some into the caravans and even into a tree, Seaton managed to get through our defence and we unluckily conceded again. Slipping and sliding around soon became a hazard and Katie’s pulled hamstring (or just a chance to sit in the nice dry dugout?) meant a quick reshuffle and Swim being drafted into goal just before half time. The half ended 2-1 to Seaton, though no one’s heads dropped and we remained confident we could get back in it!

A quick half-time snack of Tangfastics provided by Iy (the driest person there) and it was back out into the downpour. Throughout the second half our attack consistently broke through Seaton’s defence and, as the possession and crosses into the box increased, the goals soon followed. A brilliant strike by Celyn snuck into the back of the net, quickly followed by a goal from Seaton in retaliation. In response Hannah W soon returned another shot, cutting through the defence and powering past the keeper after a brilliant run down the line. This brought the score to the final 3-3 (despite a strike from Hannah which definitely crossed the line). As the match neared the end the tension was rising (as were the water levels), we were running out of balls (more in the caravan park than the ball bag) and as the rain got harder the tackles became messier. This led to multiple of free kicks both for and against EULFC, even though our midfield followed these through with amazing runs and a brilliant effort to find the back of the net, their goalie managed to block each shot. Naturally, just as the final whistle blew, the rain clouds disappeared, and the sun came out as everyone trooped off ready for their chips and curry (😍).

The match ended in a 3-3 draw after an amazing performance despite the rubbish weather (and freshers’ flu 🤮)! Everyone should be immensely proud of how they played! See everyone again this week for another SUNDAY FUNDAY match at home against Budleigh Salterton! 💚💚💚

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Chloe Whitworth for being an absolute machine in midfield

HONOURABLE MENTIONS – Amy for stepping up to play goal mid-match and smashing it, and Beth Plummer for playing centre back so well (are you sure you haven’t played there before?!)

GIMP OF THE MATCH – Katie T for pulling her hamstring within 15 mins (get well soon 💚 💚 💚) or the weather

BIG EULFC SUNDAY LEAGUE FRIENDLY

Something a bit different this Sunday Funday, due to lack of an actual fixture we had A BIG EULFC FRIENDLY! It was a brilliant match with many goals and laughs (and injuries 😬) ending 6-4 to the EULFC Green’s (🎉🎉🎉)!

A mass of EULFC players arrived at Topsham on Sunday, welcomed by Ross the groundsman on his little green tractor, all excited and ready to play our big club friendly! Into the changing rooms ready to get changed and warm up …. only to find the kit, balls and the White’s captain were missing and stuck in traffic. A quick warm up anyway while we waited and then when the kit arrived realising it reeked (sorry it was the bag, promise I washed it!). Then a big EULFC waka with both teams and the match began! Going to be an either way but lots of fun!

With everyone pumped and ready both teams were off to a great start, brilliant possession, keeping the ball moving and the shots coming. After a brilliant goal from Hannah W sneaking past Lily K into the back of the net. Then the injuries began, a previous knee injury meant Namazzi was subbed, then a ball to the face and nosebleed took Bryony out (literally). From then on and throughout the game the collisions and scrapes continued. In-between all this goals from Celyn W, Rachel P and Hannah W again (one sneaking through goalie Lily K’s hands and feet, obviously only because she had no gloves though). The Green’s continued to play brilliantly with the midfield’s cohesiveness leading the way too many more strikes on goal and eventually Hollie R’s silky shot around the defenders into goal. The White’s also played brilliantly, continuing to find gaps in the Green’s defence and making exceptional runs again and again until a strike from Darcy CG won them a goal. By half time the score was 5-1 to EULFC Greens after a phenomenal performance from both teams.

A quick half-time chat and a much-needed water break and it was back out onto the field. The EULFC whites began to bring it back within the second half with two unstoppable strikes from Hollie O and one from Nicole C into the back of the net despite a brilliant effort from Zara to save it. The injuries continued however with substitutions left, right and centre for issues from freshers flu (🤞not covid) to stamped-on feet. One more goal from Hannah W (hat-trick!!!) brought the score to 6-4 to the Green’s however the White’s comeback continued with Simone’s amazing (almost balletic) side-high-kick-save thing on the goal line, and Lily and Hollie continuing to find gaps in the Green’s defence right up until the final whistle.

The match finally finished 6-4 to the EULFC green’s (🎉) after an impressive game which everyone should be proud of themselves for! It was a brilliant game and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did! See everyone again for another SUNDAY FUNDAY match this week away to Seaton Town FC!
