Village cricket has been making headlines this week, as a club we have tried to be bigger then that by not posting any witty comments, we are not in it for click bait. 🤪
We are here for the love of the game, and our slip cordon will not be sounding like the backing track of “under pressure” 🎵 despite some new player called Clicky Ponting trying to sign for the club. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So the 1s continue there push for promotion with a strong team put out at home, a great opportunity to get down the Kenn Oval and watch some decent cricket. While the 2s are still in the hunt as they travel down the A380 to bring back a boat load of points.

📣RESULTS AND MATCH REPORTS📣

1s 🏠 to Bridestowe and Belstone
Kenn 1st XI continued their promotion push with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Bridestowe 2nd XI, remaining second in the table after another impressive all-round performance.
After electing to bat first, Bridestowe were restricted to 154-8 thanks to a disciplined display from the Kenn bowling attack. James Mason led the way, producing a disciplined spell of 4-16 from his nine overs to put the visitors under constant pressure. Chris May was equally economical, returning figures of 1-21 from his nine overs, while Ollie Prewer claimed 2-28 from eight overs to ensure Bridestowe were never able to build significant momentum.
Chasing 155 for victory, Kenn made light work of the target with a dominant batting display, reaching 156-1. James Gosling anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 95, falling just five runs short of a deserved century. He was well supported by Martin Swannell, who made a fluent 28, before Chris May finished the job alongside Gosling with an unbeaten 21.
The emphatic victory keeps Kenn firmly in second place as they continue their push for promotion, with confidence growing after another commanding team performance.

2s 🚗 to Stokeinteignhead
Game conceded by opposition, however a few players went out as loanees to get a game of cricket. A special mention has to go to Ben Parry who had a sensational knock getting a well earned century.

Another big weekend ahead for both teams, 20 points are already secured for the 2s as Stokeinteignhead struggled to raise a side this week. Im sure they would pefer to be playing but will be happy with the point haul.
While the 1s are still relentlessly putting pressure on those around them and would love your support at the Kenn Oval to help keep up their recent form.

Both teams still have lots to play for and this week promises some 🌶️ cricket. 1s are hoping to keep pressure on those around them and get some BIG points on the road While the 2s are keen to bounce back from last weeks result and turn the top 4 on its head.

Get down to the Kenn Oval to support your team and try and drink the Kenn Shed as dry as the weather.

Mixed results this week but still plenty to play for, here are a few words from the captains.

1s 🏠 to Stoke Gabriel
Kenn First XI looked to build on what has been done solid team performances in recent weeks with a game against aggressive hitting Stoke Gabriel . Kenn won the toss and decided to bat having seen a great wicket prepared by stoner and a confidence from mason that whatever Kenn could score would be more than the opposition could muster . The innings started brightly with Swannell and gosling sensibly stroking the ball around seeing off the new ball . Swanny was unlucky to be given out lbw striding down the wicket having already took his stance 2 foot outside his crease ! Jimbo and May continued to score freely until the opposition brought on spinners . From ball one from the tweakers it looked a different proposition with May and Francis both leaving balls that they said turned prestigously to hit their unguarded stumps . Batsman came and went and Kenn were teetering on the edge at 151-9 before local heroes Prewer and Conway batted with maturity beyond their years to put on 34 for the final wicket and kenn scored a creditable 185. Stoke Gabriel came out with all guns blazing and in an obvious hurry to get back to watch England as they tried to attack . They were repelled by Stronge who has refound his attacking fast bowling and sent 4 Stoke players back beating them for pace and bamboozled to how to play him . Swanny made a cameo chucking up his moon balls which their overseas and their leading home grown player couldnt resist , both finding mason on the long on boundary, Swanny of course said he was bowling to a plan with arm ball after arm ball . There were two very well worked run outs , one being a cat like dive to deflect the ball onto the non strikers stumps from Swannel and the other a great piece of fielding in close from prewer. Mace also bagged himself a couple to add to the collection and Stoke Gabriel were all out for 115 in 21 overs . A well deserved victory and Kenn push for promotion . A great team performance with real depth in commitment and skill . They go away to Stokenteignhead next week hoping to pick up another win .

2s 🚗 to Barton
A tough day for Kenn Second XI who have also been building with a good run of results in the last few games, but bit of a stutter with the bat saw them post a score that was a good 40-60 of par. The artificial wicket probably had bit of a part to play, starts for Si and Rudi looked like a base to build on but as batsman came and went the scoreboard wasn’t getting troubled, except for the extras which had another fine innings. Barton came out to bat on bit of a mission with their opener getting straight into the runs and putting the bowlers under pressure. A great response from Rudi Ellis though started to make things abit more interesting as he picked up his 5fer and Stoner picked up the wicket of the top scoring opener, the game was unfortunately getting away from the Kenn men though and the disappointment with the bat didnt give Barton enough scoreboard pressure and they got over the line comfortably in the end. The 2s are keen to bounce back and have a big game next week though, as although they have dropped to fourth in the league there are only 10 points to top of the table who will welcomed to the Kenn Oval.

Both teams have put in some gutsy performances and had to work hard for their results but it has delivered some vital points, keeping them both in the hunt in their leagues for the run in.
