CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT:

As of today, we can confirm that City Raiders AFC will merge with Heavitree United Football Club, helping to secure the future of the oldest football club in Exeter.

Following discussions over the past week, this merger means that City Raiders AFC will cease to exist as an independent club. All of our current players and committee members will become part of Heavitree United Football Club as we begin this new chapter.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported City Raiders AFC throughout the years. From our beginnings at youth level to enjoying the most successful period in the club's history, none of it would have been possible without the dedication of our players, volunteers, coaches, committee members, sponsors, and supporters.

While it is the end of City Raiders AFC, we are proud of everything the club has achieved and look forward to continuing that journey as part of Heavitree United Football Club.

It is with regret that we announce the departure of legendary manager, Adam Squire.

Adam joined the club in the summer of 2023, inheriting an unhappy, unmotivated yet clearly talented group of young players who had just finished mid-table in Division 6 of the Devon and Exeter Football League.

His first season in charge was far from smooth sailing, with various injuries and far from ideal fixture scheduling due to the poor drainage at Bettysmead, our then home ground. The Raiders finished 9th, which was enough to stay in Division 6, but it wasn’t quite the step forward we had hoped for.

Due to various teams folding in Division 5, there was room for more promoted Division 6 teams than usual, so the club put forward a request to be moved into Division 5 for the 24/25 season. This was granted, so Adam and the players now had a massive job ahead of them.

The 24/25 season was the turning point. The Raiders were back and better than ever, going 16 games unbeaten, subsequently winning Division 5, an achievement nobody expected at the start of the season.

Adam wanted to call it quits on his time in charge, but everyone at the club managed to convince him to stay for one more year, where the goal was to go back to back, and win Division 4. This is exactly what he did.

Despite taking City Raiders further than anyone could’ve expected, Adam has decided to call an end to his time in charge. The club has done everything to try and change his mind, but ultimately this is his decision and we wish him the best in whatever he does next.

Adam Squire leaves the club as a legend, and in a much stronger position than where he found it. He created an atmosphere of success both on and off the pitch, and will be sorely missed by everyone involved with the club.
