Spring Maintenance Day - Sunday 18th May, from 10.30am
Please can I urge as many of you as possible to give some of your time – even just a couple of hours – to help as many hands make light work! General tidying up of the grounds around the club, getting rid of weeds, removing ivy from nearby trees and deep cleaning the clubhouse. You might like to bring a sandwich, have lunch at the club, then stay on for the afternoon club session. If you intend to come, please bring gloves and secateurs, a couple of bags to take away garden rubbish and/or materials for deep cleaning. Many thanks. (Photos from last year's maintenance day)

Last year, we re-entered a Ladies team in the Exeter and District League. Our ladies did brilliantly, won the division and will be competing in division 5 this summer. Good luck!

As part of our New Year party, we ran a poetry competition. The only rule was that the poem had to be inspired by Newton St Cyres Tennis Club. Here is the winning entry by Emma.
They freeze as a train rushes past
Then spring into action again
Like dancers who don’t know the steps
But move with a grace of their own.
The rooks are up high in the sky
Looking down on the courts in the Rec
At the players who fly to and fro
As the ball hurtles into the net.
It’s tennis for old and for young
For beginners and veterans alike.
It’s active and social and fun
At Newton St Cyres Tennis Club!

On Friday, 10th January 2025, we held our New Year social at the Newton Rec. There were no murder mysteries like last year; instead, we held a poetry competition! This turned out to be a great success and caused many a laugh on the night. All the poems are now on the website, as well as photos from the night.

On Sunday, 17th September, the club held its annual finals day and BBQ. The bunting fairies did their job beautifully, the sun came out, our sexy BBQ operators managed not to burn all the sausages and the finalists put on a great spectacle for the masses.
If you want to know who the bunting fairies and the sexy BBQ operators were, head over to the website where you will find the answers! Oh and you will also see who the champions for this year are.

Jana and Sarah were selected to play for the Devon Over 35s Ladies in the County Cup in Eastbourne held Saturday 5 to Monday 7 August 2023.
The over 35s County Cup is an annual event in which 44 counties compete over a long weekend on the famous grass court courts in Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. The 44 counties are placed in 11 groups of four counties. These groups are placed in order of the previous year’s results with Group 1 being the ‘premier league’. Final positions are based on how each county performs within that particular group over the weekend – with top teams getting promoted to the next group and bottom teams relegated to the group below. Devon failed to put in a Ladies Over 35s team over the last couple of years, which meant they dropped into the bottom (6th) division.
The weekend of this year’s County Cup was a mix of sunshine and showers, and of course grass courts don’t like rain! This meant that there were lots of delays, resulting in the play format being reduced. There was no play at all on Saturday and shorts sets to 4 were played on Sunday and Monday. On Monday, the format was further reduced to fit all the remaining matches in, and only two singles and one doubles match were played (standard format is two singles and three doubles).
Jana and Sarah played three doubles in total, two against the South of Scotland on Sunday and one against Staffordshire on Monday. They won their first two doubles but lost the one on Monday, in some pretty tricky windy conditions. Credit to the Staffs ladies who coped with the strong side winds better than our girls.
Devon missed out on promotion by just one rubber but I think we can safely say that our girls did our club proud!
