We start teaching breaststroke at Swim Wild Academy from Stage 1 with crocodile snap legs.

Our work to make swimmers master the full stroke continues all the way to stage 7 where they will develop the difficult timing of Pulling, breathing, kicking and of course gliding.

Its a fab stroke to teach although can be a little tricky at times as requires arms and legs to move in completely different patterns to the other 3 strokes.

Will my child get certificates?

Yes, absolutely! Every time your child passes a stage or distance award they will receive a certificate and badge. This is included in the cost of your weekly lessons so no extra payment needed.

As a general guide children will receive around 3 certificates per year 🙂

Introducing Ross, one of your fave Swim Wild Instructors teaching lessons at Penryn Primary school on Tuesday, Fridays, Saturday & Sundays.

Here's a little about him...

Originally from Cornwall, I have been a swim teacher for 8 years and have a passion for water safety and skill development. I try to create a positive and supportive learning environment so the children can thrive in the water, while also enjoy themselves along the way. When planning my lessons, I take care in assessing the children’s needs and what they need to improve going forward.

Being a swim teacher really gives me a sense of achievement. Especially when a child goes from not swimming at all then progresses through the stages and becomes very competent in all aspects of swimming! I really enjoy putting my time and effort into giving children the best chance to progress and be the best version of themselves.

A bit about me! I have spent most years in Cornwall but have also completed 2 seasons over in Bordeaux, France, where I was a Lifeguard. Going abroad, seeing new places and discovering different ways of life are a real passion of mine! Outside of the water world, I love spending time with family and friends and playing a range of sports.

🌟Stage Focus🌟

Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 2 sees swimmers develop streamlining to their strokes and travel without their feet on the floor, using a recognised leg kick.

They will develop basic floating and learn how to rotate to regain an upright position without support.

Stage 2 further develops water confidence and teaches swimmers to breathe confidently while in the water.

Being confident with the face in the water, or having water on the face, is crucial to stroke development. Learning to be happy in the water at an early stage will allow swimmers to develop other skills more quickly later on.

❄️ Cold Water Shock ❄️💧

What is it?
The effect on the body of entering water 15°C or below.

Why is it dangerous?
Anything below 15°C is defined as cold water and can seriously affect your breathing and movement, so the risk is significant most of the year in the UK waters.

If you enter the water unexpectedly:
Take a minute. The initial effects of cold water pass in less than a minute so don’t try to swim straight away.
Relax and Float to Live.
Keep calm then call for help or swim for safety if you’re able.

I think most of you know me by now, but thought it would be nice to introduce myself for anyone who hasn't met me yet.

My name is Charlotte, and I started Swim Wild Academy 3 years ago and haven't looked back since. I absolutely love teaching and seeing the children progress throughout the stages. It genuinely gives me so much happiness that we have taught and continue to teach so many children in this little pocket of Cornwall how to stay safe and enjoy the water.

I have been involved in swimming pretty much my whole life, from competing when I was younger, to teaching and working for Swim England for several years before setting up the swim school.

Outside of swimming, you will find me rowing, playing netball, and travelling the world!
