90’s loveliness! Gios restoration project completed. Another happy camper.

The latest restoration project completed and really pleased with the result.

A few patches of rust were treated and managed to find a pretty close colour match, the chrome also came up beautifully.

The addition of a Campagnolo groupset and a set of Mavic CXP 30’s really set off this Italian beauty!!!

The Campagnolo c- record group set was and still remains the most beautiful ever made.

My latest restoration mission!

A nice story attached to this tired but potentially beautiful machine. The customer bought this Gios new in 1997 then regretfully was forced to sell it 15 years ago. He was recently clearing out his yahoo inbox and stumbled across the email trail from the time of the sale. He pinged the buyer a tentative mail in the hope that he might still have the bike and that he might be persuaded to part with it. Much to his surprise he got an immediate response, after a brief stint as a commuter (sacrilege I know) the chap had retired the bike and it was now gathering dust in his shed and he was more than happy to return it!! Unfortunately the bike was not quite in the same condition as he remembered on its return. That’s where I was asked to help!

The brief is to replace the current modern Sram groupset with a period correct Campagnolo one and to sympathetically restore the frame to somewhere near its former glory. As you can see she has had a hard life. Stone chips, scratches and surface rust this ones going to be a challenge!

It is born!! Finally done my Bottecchia SL is ready to go. The frame was NOS but needed some tlc having knocked around the previous owners garage unbuilt since he bought it in 1997.

It has been fitted with period correct mint condition Campagnolo chorus groupset and Mavic SUP Wheelset. Spotless and ready to ride she is now looking for a new home.

I picked up this beautiful Bottecchia SL frame NOS from a guy who bought it from a friend who’s shop was shutting down back in 1997. He’d never got round to building it so it had sat getting bashed around in his garage ever since.

Some of the paintwork needed attention so I decided to respray parts of it to give it the feel of a friends Bottecchia I coveted in the early 90’s.

After some painstaking masking up this is how she’s come out so far.
