We have just finished filming and sending off the entries for the next All Steps Formation competition.
3 completely different teams with different confidence levels and horses and ponies of different ages and schooling levels. Riding the same test to different combinations of music genre and style.
SO MUCH FUN
One of the biggest misconceptions about formation riding is:
❌ "It's just going round and round following each other."
❌ "It's not for me — my horse won't cope in a crowd."
❌ "Me and my horse aren't good enough."
The truth?
Formation riding is about so much more than group riding in patterns.
It helps riders build ✅confidence
✅improve communication
✅develop rhythm and control
✅learn to stay relaxed under pressure.
You gain greater awareness of both your horse and those around you, while building trust and partnership every step of the way.
These aren't skills reserved for elite riders — they're skills that grow through supportive coaching, practice, and experience.
When horses and riders move together in harmony to good music, there is nothing better. It's eye catching and inspiring.
Formation riding strengthens focus, deepens your connection with your horse, and gives you the chance to be part of a fun, encouraging, and supportive team.
So don't ask, "Am I good enough?"
Ask yourself, "What could my horse and I achieve together?"

It is lovely to know that my annual pilgrimage up to the British Show jumping Centre to talk about the value of being an Empathetic Coach is making impact.
Glad you enjoyed the program.
😀
Lucy came to me a couple of months ago in a bit of a pickle.
It was simple really but she had lost her way with no strategy or plan to help solve the problems she had been having with her lovely connie boy.
"I contacted Senara after a bit of a confidence crisis resulting from horse/rider miscommunication. We had a lot of tension and I couldn’t figure out how to relax us both. Senara took me back to basics and slowed everything down to a more manageable pace. We came away from our first session as a happier pair and are looking forward to the next lesson!"
Trusting in me and doing the home work has really helped these two move forward and build confidence in each other .

Knowing that I specialise in coaching adults, people often assume I don't coach children and teenagers.
I do.
Over the years I've been heavily involved in Pony Club rallies and camps, and I've coached many young riders. Even now, I still have a handful of regular riders under 16 on my books.
So why the change over the last few years?
Because teaching children and teenagers is different.
Not harder. Not easier. Just different.
Young riders aren't simply smaller adults. They learn differently, process information differently, and often need a completely different approach to build confidence, understanding and independence.
As a coach, that means adapting my communication, my expectations and my teaching style to suit the individual rider in front of me.
The reason I now coach fewer young riders isn't because I don't enjoy it or don't value it. It's because I believe children and teenagers deserve coaches who genuinely understand how they learn and develop.
When I take on a younger rider, it's because I know I can give them the time, attention and tailored coaching they need to thrive.
Good coaching isn't about teaching everyone the same way.
It's about understanding the person in front of you and helping them become the best rider they can be.
Mixed clinic classes don't work for me unless requested.
I suppose I need to feel like I'm riding in everyone's boots, not acting as a ' traffic controller '.
Id love to know your thoughts on riding with under 16s in the same group. Do you mind? How does it make you feel?

Why do I coach adult riders?
Because I've seen first-hand what happens when someone stops doubting themselves and starts believing in what they can achieve.
So many adult riders come to me carrying more than just their horses equipment and their hat and boots.....
... They bring nerves, past experiences, self-criticism, and often the feeling that they should be "better" than they are.
Riding isn't about being perfect. It's about building trust, understanding your horse, and developing unstoppable confidence.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing a rider who once felt anxious walk away from a lesson smiling, feeling capable, and looking forward to enjoying their riding journey.
Horse welfare.
For me, it's completely non-negotiable.
The best partnerships are built when both horse and rider feel understood, respected, and supported. A confident rider helps create a relaxed horse, and a happy horse helps build a confident rider. They go hand in hand.
My goal has never been just to teach people how to ride better.
It's to help riders feel confident, empowered, and connected to their horses while always putting the horse's wellbeing first.
Because when both horse and rider thrive, there is nothing better.
I'd love to know — what's the constant struggle you have in life at the moment and how this effects time with your horse?
Fancy a camp?
But don't always want to go xc and jump?
But love the camaraderie, fun and friendship that camps bring?
Love great facilities and a new challenge?
Well come and join All Steps Formation Camp.

When I first met Fran and Grace they were both very confused. There was no clear plan on the ground when handling nor under saddle.
I am very proud of how consistent Fran has been with her training and the trust she has put into my process.
This is what Fran has to say:
"Before we started with Senara from Equest.Coach, we didn’t train in the arena.
My position was awful, my mare was unhappy and we just ended up having arguments as we were both struggling, so we just hacked.
We’ve been training with Senara for over a year now, and while we’ve had injuries to contend with and have at times taken a few steps back, I’m so thrilled with the progress we’ve made!
My mare seems to enjoy her work more (most of the time!), we have better boundaries, my posture has improved, and we’re actually starting to move nicely and look quite pretty while doing it!
We’ve gone from being completely upside-down, and me riding with no purpose, to forming a rather beautiful partnership.
Being a mare, we still have good days and not-so-good days, but I feel much better equipped to deal with what I thrown at me on those occasions.
I couldn’t recommend Senara more, and I’m excited to see what our next chapter and challenge has in store!"

Horses have a remarkable way of seeing beyond what we try to present.
They sense our energy, our inconsistencies, our confidence, and our doubt.
They recognize the parts of us we sometimes try to hide, even from ourselves.
The moment we stop performing, remove the mask, and show up authentically and when who we are on the outside finally matches who we are within that is when the horse begins to believe us.
Belief is where the deepest relationships begin.
I first met Tamsin and Bea about 2 years ago in a group session. They both had a lot of troubles. So I invited her to come and have some one on one sessions as I knew I could help them both.
It's been a journey of physical and mental rehab for Bea and growth and understanding for Tamsin.
"We met Senara when we had lost our way and our confidence. Slowly we started from the beginning and actually listened to what my horse was telling me not what I believed she was. One of the best things about Senara is she generally doesn't ride your horse for you. I never realised it ( and I was always the one who asked for it) but I was always comparing my ability to ride my horse against my instructors when there was a problem they solved it for me. I now have to ride through the problem. I ride my horse in the way she needs to be ridden, my aids are clearer, my responses are quicker and fairer. I feel safer and I hope we understand each other so much more. It was the best thing to happen to us both when Senara ( very politely) suggested we leave the group session and possibly start some one to one work together 🤣🤣"
Thank you Tamsin and Bea.
Iv loved being part of your journey.
