After recently introducing our team of instructors, I thought I’d also introduce myself(!) and share the approach behind our teaching.
I’m Michael, the owner of Greaves Swim School, opened in October 2022.
I have 14 years experience delivering swimming lessons across the UK. I’ve developed my approach working at Leisure Centres, Private Swim Schools and both State & Private Schools. I have a clear vision of the learning environment I want to create, based off both classroom and swimming experience.
Our lessons centre around building strong technique with instructors teaching from in the water, this helps infinitely with swimmer confidence, trust and understanding. Our approach is holistic, the sheer amount of planning and self-analysis outside of lessons is key to our commitment to you; we promise to deliver the most effective swimming lessons possible.
Over the last 6 years, I have specialised in SEN and additional needs lessons. As a teacher in any subject, I believe being open-minded is one of the most crucial skills to possess. Despite developing tried and tested methods after over a decade teaching and coaching, one of the aspects I enjoy the most is relentlessly striving to improve, not standing still. Working with children in an education setting requires a lot of adaptation and it’s never one-size fits all. I take pride in this individual approach and hope it comes across in each and every lesson.
If you attend our swimming lessons, you will know I view lessons as much more than an after-school club. Not only do we teach a lifesaving skill but also instil qualities like perseverance and determination, which carry through into all aspects of life.
A lot of my teaching methods are in my head, and teaching isn’t something you can do by numbers, I reckon any good teacher would struggle to put their approach into words! This is one example of an area I have tried to improve over the last year, look out in the future for Greaves Swim ACADEMY, a training platform for swimming instructors and Swim Schools to improve their own swimming lesson delivery intended to raise the standard of swimming lessons across the UK.
