This month, weâre celebrating one year of Emma being part of the Duo Pilates team! đĽł
Huge thanks to Emma for all the fantastic classes youâve run for our members over the last year (and the many more to come!).
For those who havenât met Emma yet, Emma is one of our highly experienced, APPI Certified Pilates Instructors, who is also a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.
Emma uses her clinical expertise to create safe, effective and adaptable classes, to help members move safely, build strength and gain more confidence in their exercise routines.
Emmaâs main goal as a Pilates instructor is to create a space where members feel comfortable moving at their own pace - to find enjoyment in the exercise and its benefits â so you donât feel like itâs something you have to do â but something you want to do, that supports your mental and physical wellbeing.
Emma currently runs a range of beginner and intermediate Mat Pilates classes at our studio - if youâd like to join one of Emmaâs friendly and supportive classes, sign up to our waitlist here: https://duopilates.co.uk/ -list

At our studio, we keep classes small for a variety of reasons, including:
âď¸To ensure each and every member has personal care and attention and support when they need it.
âď¸To ensure safety for members. Thanks to our small class size, our instructors can easily keep an eye on how everyone is doing, so we can provide tweaks and adaptations if you are struggling with a specific exercise or need help getting correct form.
âď¸To create a supportive, friendly community environment. We wanted to create a space where members feel at ease walking into our sessions, not overwhelmed or feeling out of place in a large class environment. Our small classes also mean we get to know each and every member over a term, which we find helps members build confidence as the weeks progress.
This lovely five-star Google review from our member, Sarah, highlights why we are glad we chose to keep classes small, too!

âI was completely new to pilates and I'm so glad I took the plunge. I can honestly say, reformer pilates is a form of exercise I actually enjoy doing. Especially at Duo Pilates. Louise is able to adapt any move to suit your ability, she's patient and will help you overcome any barriers you might have. Because the class is small, it really does feel like having you're own personal trainer. I will happily recommend Louise/Duo Pilates to anybody thinking of trying pilates outâ
Thank you so much, Sarah, for taking the time to leave this feedback! đĽ°

Many of our members come to us to try Mat or Reformer Pilates for the first time after many years practising Yoga.
And often, many are impressed by how much they love it and go on to also practice Pilates regularly.
Even our instructor, Lucy - who has been a committed yogi for many years - was inspired to make Pilates part of her everyday life (personally and professionally!) after trying out a Reformer class.
Sometimes, people donât realise the difference between Yoga and Pilates, so we thought weâd share the main differences between these popular practices that, together, can provide a perfect combination of benefits to both mental and physical health:
-Yoga focuses largely on mobility, flexibility, breath-led, mindful movement flow and spiritual connection.
-Pilates focuses on building core strength, improving posture and alignment and controlled movements to improve overall balance and strength, particularly of stabiliser muscles. This can be useful in feeling safer and less prone to injury when trying to improve flexibility during exercise practices such as yoga.
These practices complement each other particularly well, as both focus on the mind-body-breath connection and boost relaxation.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11am, we run our specialist older-adults mat Pilates classes.
This popular session is designed specifically to provide appropriate and accessible exercises to help you stay active, healthy, and independent.
Low-impact exercises in the class focus on controlled movement and breathing, aimed to help you improve:
âď¸Posture
âď¸Balance
âď¸Strength
âď¸Coordination
âď¸Flexibility
âď¸Breathing efficiency
âď¸Mind and body awareness
This can provide benefits including supporting the management of long-term health conditions and joint pain, supporting rehabilitation following injury or surgery and help to reduce the risks of falls in the future.
We keep our class size small, with a maximum of 12 members, to allow us to provide personalised support and advice.
You donât need any previous Pilates experience or equipment - all you need to bring is water and a small towel for your headblock!
This class is always a lovely, friendly and supportive group, providing a great way to meet others in the local community too.
