π Today we proudly support World Drowning Prevention Day. π
Weβre delighted to see wyrecouncil lighting the Marine Hall Dome blue this evening to help raise awareness of this incredibly important cause.
Drowning claims the lives of more than 300,000 people every year worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of preventable death in children and young people.
As a swimming club, we know that learning to swim is just the beginning. Water confidence, understanding the risks, respecting open water, and knowing what to do in an emergency are all vital life skills.
Today is a reminder for us all to:
π Learn to swim and develop water safety skills.
π Always supervise children around water.
π Choose lifeguarded beaches and swimming areas where possible.
π Wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid when appropriate.
π Remember Float to Live β if you find yourself in difficulty, float on your back, relax, and control your breathing.
If youβre out and about this evening, keep an eye out for the Marine Hall Dome glowing blue in support of World Drowning Prevention Day.
Together, we can help raise awareness, educate others, and save lives.

Happy Fatherβs Day to our Mako Dads
To the dads on poolside, in the stands,
To uncles, grandads and helping hands.
The early starts, the taxi runs,
The cheering loudly for everyone.
You carry bags, you calm the nerves,
You clap each race, each kick, each curve.
You know the drill, the goggles too,
And somehow always find lost shoes!
For every βwell doneβ, every smile,
For waiting round that extra while.
For all the support you give each day,
We hope you feel appreciated in every way.
So hereβs to the dads, grandads and crew,
Uncles, role models β thank you too.
You help our swimmers chase their way,
With love and pride β Happy Fatherβs Day!
