"I just wanted to stop being the injured version of myself."

That's how one of my clients described the period after a late-in-life knee injury.

Martyn saw a physio and had some some exercises to do, but he was largely left to his own devices, and progress was therefore painfully (literally) slow.

When we started working together, what Martyn got was structure: real discipline and guidance, not just self-directed recovery. That, and Martyn staying consistent, is what really shifted the needle for him.

And what does that mean in practice - in real life - for Martyn? Well, he's now playing indoor cricket again after a 20-year break 🙌 ... which, in his words is something that "keeps a smile on my face all week."

Recovery isn't just about getting treatment. It's about following it through, it can be hard, it can be slow, and it can be boring. So if you find it difficult to stay motivated and keep on track, having the right support to actually get you there can be the missing link.

🟠 So, if you're dealing with ongoing or lingering injury or pain, this is your reminder to put in place a structure to help you stay consistent, and build progression to manage your recovery so you too can achieve your return to whatever it is you want to get back to: sport, walking, life...

🟡 And if you know someone stuck in their own "injured version" of themselves, send this on to them so they can reach their potential too.

🙌 You can absolutely do this on your own, but if you need help structuring your recovery, send me a message or drop a comment.

I felt like I didn’t have the time to go out for an hour run today, but I’d been sat at my desk working on the business for a while and felt I needed to move - so did it.

And now I feel great - OK it wasn’t my best run, but I managed to motivate myself to get out there and do it, despite lots of urgernt things that needed doing - and although I was hot and sweaty when I got home, my mind was refreshed and I was actually more productive.

It’s HUGELY important to carve out some you time in the day - that doesn’t have to be exercise, it could be a hobby, but i would say exercise has added health benefits (mind and body) which you might not get with all hobbies.

🟡 But less about me.. what about you? What are you doing for yourself today? ⬇️ comment ⬇️

If your hip hurts when you walk, ⬇️⬇️⬇️
the first thing I’d want to know is when it starts to hurt.

Straight away, or further into the walk?

Because those point to two different things, and two different solutions.

Swipe through for how I think about it. ➡️

Worth knowing: research shows pain genuinely slows walking speed in older adults, and walking speed is actually used as a marker of overall health. This isn’t just about comfort on a Sunday stroll.

When does your pain kick in? Straight away or further in?

🟡 Let me know in the comments.⬇️

I LOVE a fly-by!

This was Armed Forces Day in Folkestone today.

Watching a Spitfire, Hurricane, Chinook and a Fairey Swordfish fly over the coast on a scorching June weekend.

It’s more than just a physical thing ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Martyn noticed something in my Pilates classes that I think gets overlooked all the time.

Exercise isn’t just physical.

The mental shift that comes with it, the way people start to stand differently, speak differently, feel differently about themselves, is just as powerful.

Maybe more so for some people.

He talked about watching people come in feeling beaten up, sorry for themselves, not in a great place.

And over the sessions, something changes.  Self-esteem grows.  Confidence comes back.  They start to feel good about everything, not just their body.

I see it too.  Every week.  And I think it happens because I genuinely listen.

I watch how people move.  I work to understand what’s really going on for them, and I care, deeply, about helping them get somewhere better.

That’s true in my in-person classes.  And it’s just as true in my 1:1 online coaching - where actually, without a room full of people, the attention is even more focused on you.  What you need.  How you’re doing.  What’s getting in the way.

Movement changes bodies.  But it also changes people.

Whatever your body needs right now, there’s a place to start. ⬇️

Summer 🥰

21/06/2026

Summer solstice ☀️ the day with the longest time of daylight - which is why I love it! But also feel a little bit sad (as it’s downhill from here) - but focusing on the positives 🤩🤩 so I’ll think about that another time and just enjoy it.

Apparently the actual moment of summer solstice this year is at 21:24hrs - it’s the moment the northern hemisphere is most tilted towards the sun.

Hope you enjoy it 🤩🤩

Oh, and a quick health tip: stay hydrated! It’s going to be a hot week!!! 💧
