Better late than never after the latest FBC action concluded at David Lloyds this Sunday past. Despite the postponement of our return to the Mixed League (after a several decade vacation), Forfar still enjoyed three outings in the men's (1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions).
Up first were the 1s in their hotly anticipated derby with Kirrie 1, following the success of Forfar 2 the Matchday before that. With a somewhat unorthodox team including Lachlan Mulford, Ben Cassie, Kieran Crockett and Ethan Brymer, it looked set to be a tense match against a very experienced Kirrie side.
The Forfar youths stepped up big time and did more than just hold their own, however, as the 1s marched to a decisive 3-0 victory over their local rivals. Well played all ✅
The 2s and 3s were up next but it was Captain Chris Weir's 2s who had somewhat of a grudge match on their hands against the remonstrant Firees, who managed to gather a familiarly strong team. With fresh(ish) blood in tow for Forfar (Matthew Clay, Matthew Stallard & Calum Murray), it was to be another contest of youth vs experience. However, the firees showed that you can't teach composure, edging out the majority of tighter matches to emerge victorious with a 3-1 win, congrats to them!
Captain Andrew Steele's Forfar 3s faced off in the final match of the day against a Dundee Uni team which seems to approach every match - never mind season - with new faces. Andy was accompanied by Michael Dore, Ben Trethowan and Bradley Andrew who battled it out to very fine margins but it was the University who earned the spoils on the day. Better luck next time chaps!
