Open to anyone 14+ local to Fowey and surrounding areas. It is a great free opportunity to get involved in, no sailing experience is needed!
Our Fowey Regatta Sail Training Class places young people at the heart of one of Cornwall’s most celebrated regattas. They join crews from seven boats from three other UK Sail Training organisations and take part in a three-race series across the South West coast. This includes Plymouth to Fowey, Fowey to Falmouth, and Falmouth back to Fowey; each leg offering its own challenges in navigation, teamwork, and decision making.
This voyage is fully funded through the generous support of POFROC, the Port of Fowey Race Organising Committee. All places are offered free to young people who live within 10 miles of Fowey. Applicants must also live within this radius. We deliver this programme to open the door for local young people to experience a meaningful challenge at sea without financial barriers.
Throughout the races, each trainee becomes part of a working watch. They take the helm, trim sails, communicate under pressure, and learn how to make safe, steady decisions in changing conditions. The atmosphere is competitive yet supportive; UK Sail Training organisations race side by side, united by a shared belief in the value of youth development through sail.
For young people looking for a purposeful introduction to offshore teamwork, this is a unique opportunity grounded in community, challenge, and tradition.
