After 3 weeks of coaching at 7 local Primary Schools, Fraserburgh Cricket Club hosted a festival of cricket on Friday 12th June at Kessock Park Cricket Pitch where over 60 children had a chance to play fun matches with the other schools involved using the skills learned.
All the children from all teams listened well to the umpires and threw all their enthusiasm into playing the games and also the skills sessions with Cricket Scotland βs Tony McKenna. We hope they all enjoyed their day as much as we enjoyed hosting, they were all a credit to their schools.
Special mentions for St Combs School who played with great enthusiasm and teamwork supporting each other throughout the festival and winning the Fraserburgh Primary School Cricket Shield for this year ππππ.
Also to Tyrie School who were awarded Fair Play certificates for their spirit and fairness throughout.
These events donβt happen themselves so the club would like to give big thanks to Aberdeenshire Clubsport SCIO for funding the coaching and festival.
Also thanks to Michelle at Active Schools Aberdeenshire North for facilitating access to the schools, Alan and Michael for delivering the school cricket sessions, Fraserburgh in the Community for providing water and a snack for the children, Watermill Coaches Ltd for bussing the outlying schools to and from Kessock Park, Tony McKenna from Cricket Scotland - Clubs and Communities for his skills sessions on festival day, all our club volunteer helpers on the day (Lisa, Richard, Abdul, Callum and Ace π). Not forgetting all the schools who allowed us to bring cricket back and gave pupils the chance to learn and play a different team sport. A real collaborative community effort, much appreciated π
After a break of 7 years we were really pleased on how things went and would love to bring the school sessions and the festival to all the local primaries again next year.
