What a fantastic day at our first Junior Summer Camp of the summer! ☀️⛳
We spent the morning on the driving range and short game area playing fun, engaging games that helped our juniors develop new skills through play while keeping everyone challenged and smiling. After refuelling with lunch and plenty of snacks in our newly renovated cafe , we headed out onto the golf course Fraserburgh Golf Club for an afternoon of on course fun and learning.
It was brilliant to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and improvement throughout the day. A huge well done to everyone who came along!

A great 3 days competing at the Scottish Young Pro Championship at the fantastic Crieff Golf Club . Four rounds of testing conditions, with plenty of wind, made for a great challenge.
I was delighted to be in the final group on the final day and have the opportunity to compete. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite have my best stuff on the last day, but I’m really pleased to finish T4 with rounds of 70, 68, 72, 72 (-2).
Considering I’ve had very little time to practice recently due to a busy coaching schedule, I’m proud of how I played throughout the week. It’s always valuable to put yourself under pressure in competition, and experiences like this only make me a better coach for my players.
Time to get back to coaching, while taking plenty of positives from the week.

Looking for something brilliant for the kids to do this Thursday?
Our Full Day Junior Golf Camp at Dunes is a fantastic chance for them to learn loads, have fun, make friends and enjoy a full day of golf with a PGA Golf Coach.
They’ll be learning through games and challenges across the range, short game area and golf course, all in a fun, safe and confidence-building environment.
And for parents?
You can drop them off for the day and actually get those jobs done… or just enjoy a few peaceful hours without hearing “I’m bored” every 10 minutes. We won’t judge.
What’s included:

Yesterday evening’s session with the Advanced Junior Group focused on an area every player highlighted at the start of this block of lessons, speed control on the greens. ⛳️
To work on this, we played a game called Leapfrog 🐸
🔹 Start from a set distance (we worked between 15 and 30 feet)
🔹 Set up a target window using two tees
🔹 The challenge is to fit as many balls as possible into that window, with each putt finishing further than the previous one
🔹 Come up short or go past the final tee and it’s back to zero!
A huge well done to Edwyn and Mure, who set the benchmark with an impressive 10 balls inside the 15-foot window! 👏🏆
We then took our practice out onto the course to test those skills where they matter most.
Keeping practice fun, competitive and engaging, while always having a clear purpose, allows the players to learn, develop and improve without feeling over coached.
Earlier this year, Mark won my Masters Giveaway, and this week we got to work on the area that had been holding him back most - putting. ⛳️
After tracking his stats over the last few months, Mark quickly identified that his recent rise in handicap was largely down to his performance on the greens.
A big focus of our session was improving tempo to help with pace control, as he had been leaving himself far too much work on his second putt.
But coaching isn’t always just about technique. Mark admitted that he finds practice “boring”, meaning it often gets neglected. So alongside the technical work, we introduced a series of gamified drills designed to make practice more enjoyable, engaging and, most importantly, effective.
At Dunes Golf Centre, lessons are about more than quick fixes. They’re about creating a long-term plan, building better habits, and giving golfers the tools they need to improve both on and off the course.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to play in Regional Qualifying for the The Open Championship at Craigielaw Golf Club .
I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and Craigielaw was presented in fantastic condition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the score I was looking for, finishing with a disappointing 74 (+3).
With the coaching diary being so busy recently, I haven’t managed to dedicate as much time to my own game as I’d have liked, and it certainly showed. The areas around the green were incredibly demanding, and I lost too many shots at crucial moments. It’s a great reminder that no matter how well you strike the ball, if your short game isn’t sharp, it’s very difficult to score well.
