Freshwater Bay golf course, on the Isle of Wight, is one of the most spectacular courses in the UK. Set on the downlands overlooking the English Channel, this seaside links style golf course is 5,725 yards long, par 69 which provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Visitors are most welcome and we provide very reasonable rates. Freshwater Bay is an ideal venue for society and corporate golf days and we believe that our friendly hospitality will add to the enjoyment of your game, creating a memorable day for your members. We can also help with travel/ ferry information and accommodation if you are planning a longer visit.

THE BIG ONE — FRESHWATER BAY GOLF CLUB
There are golf competitions… and then there’s this one.
With the stunning backdrop of Freshwater Bay, 49 men will step onto the course knowing there’s nowhere to hide. Two days, 36 holes, and one chance to earn the respect of the members.

Forget the handicap for a couple of days — this is about bragging rights, bottle and keeping the ball in play. Every tee shot matters, every putt has a story, and somewhere along the way there’ll be at least one man confidently declaring, “That’s exactly where I was aiming.”

The pressure will build as the field gets whittled down, with friends quickly becoming rivals and perfectly good friendships put at risk over a three-footer.

There’ll be birdies, bogeys, lost balls, heroic recoveries and at least one scorecard that mysteriously improves when nobody’s looking.

At the end of two days, only one man will stand above the rest.

49 men. 2 days. 36 holes. 1 champion.

The trophy is nice.
The glory is better.
But the respect of your fellow members? That’s what you’re really playing for.

So sharpen the wedges, check the alignment, kiss goodbye to the Pro V1s and remember the golden rule:

Drive for show, putt for dough… and absolutely nobody remembers a four-putt.

Let battle commence.

FRESHWATER BAY GOLF CLUB SENIOR OPEN

Friday 4th September 2026

When the early starters turned up on Friday they must have been thinking “what have we let ourselves in for” as the heavens opened not long after they had started their round. Luckily however, the downpour only lasted about 15 minutes and then for the rest of the day conditions were conducive to good golf – as the scores show!

In Division 1, Andy Macey beat John Sweeney (both from Bramshaw), both scoring 41 points but Andy having the better back 9.

In Division 2, David Wilkins won with 38 points with Chris Tansley taking 2nd place with 37.

The Golf Club want to extend their sincere thanks to the sponsors of the event, Van Mossell, Esplanade, and especially to Craig and Ben who were onsite all day to ensure the smooth running of the event. And also providing some refreshments, which were consumed responsibly.

He’s one of our own!

Ryan’s unwavering dedication to his dream and his belief in himself have been truly inspiring. Through hard work, determination, and the confidence to keep believing in his journey, he has achieved a fantastic milestone by winning his first Tour golf event. This victory is a wonderful reflection of his commitment, passion, and belief that dreams can become reality. A huge congratulations from us all at the club.

👏🏼 Congratulations 👏🏼

Well played to Sammi Keen and Paul Moreton (Ryde) who won the Roger Webb Mixed Island Foursomes! They won the final on the 18th at Shanklin and Sandown after a very close match to Eric and Sally Hardman from Ryde.

Congratulations to our fabulous Ladies Section for winning the IWLGA League! The team had some fantastic wins over the season and we are all glad to have the shield back! 🏆

A busy Saturday ahead!

Captains day, our captain David Harding has put a lot of time and effort in to make this day as fun and smooth as possible, and we still have some slots available, please ring up with your team of 4 and in!
Aswell as greenkeeper Danny hosting the junior competition all morning too.

New sign on the 1st tee. You may think it’s unnecessary.

Imagine going to the barbers or hairdressers, you’ve had a lovely fresh cut, been styled, you look lush. As you get out the building, someone comes along and scuffs up your hair for no reason.

A score worth mentioning. The now fave for the club championship Keith Wright shot a gross 64, nett 59 this Sunday in the monthly medal. Even dropping his lipstick (leaving a putt short) on the 18th for birdie, a personal best. Great effort Keith.
