Clan Donald cup game 1

Lochalsh 1 G/A United 2

Missing a few regulars in the squad the boys dug deep to get our first competitive win since the club was reformed.

First half we started brightly and created numerous chances but we were guilty of being wasteful with our final finish and final ball at times. Our backline and midfield kept the Lochalsh team from creating any real clear cut chances.

0-0 HT

Some stern words about being wasteful at half time and a small tactical switch meant we continued on the second half how we started, forward Corey Maclennan worked a yard of space and was able to deliver a ball over the top of the Lochalsh backline for Joel Goldby to chase, he still had work to do and bet two men before finishing low to the right corner with his left foot. 1-0 G/A. We continued on well after that more chances came and went but again we failed to score from a couple more good opportunities. With 15 to go Lochalsh went to two up top and started putting a bit more pressure on our back line, a free kick wide from the left was met well by the Lochalsh forward to head into the goal to even the score up with 5 minutes to go. 1-1. We knew we had work to do to get the win as a draw would of definitely felt like points dropped and with just a minute after the restart a free kick won by Corey, was met by Ryan Watson to head back to captain Sam Frost to rifle a volley past the Lochalsh keeper to give us the victory and our first win this season. 2-1 G/A final score

A great team performance all round it almost felt wrong to pick a Man of the Match however young Reuben Goldby again put in a power of work all game in midfield, drifting past his opponents with ease, but also his work off the ball to get back and put in some great challenges is why he’s our man of the match again. Well done Reuben 👏🏻

We now face Portree at home in a couple weeks time and we have to back up this performance with another good one if we want to win a trophy.

Thanks to Lochalsh for the competitive game and to Phil for refereeing. Thanks also to our sponsors

🏆 Clan Donald Cup

⚽️ G/A United vs Portree FC
📍 Maclennan Park, Aultbea
🗓️ Saturday 12th September
⏰ 1PM

Competitive football returns to the area! For the first time since 2019, where we host Portree in the first fixture of this new format for the Clan Donald Cup before travelling away to Lochalsh next week.

There’s a real buzz about the team to finally get a home game and test ourselves against another tough outfit in Portree, a look back at our previous encounter was a 3-3 draw up in Portree back in 2019, we are sure it’ll be another exciting game.

it’ll also be our first game back in Aultbea in 8 years, lots of work has gone on in the background to get the pitch up and running again and we look forward to getting back out on it.

We hope you can join us and support the team in a home fixture again, you’ve all done so well travelling with the team in our first 3 away fixtures. we will need as many of you as we can on Saturday.

The (sort of) Over-40s Harris team that took on Gairloch/Aultbea United Football Club in Ullapool yesterday.

A memorial game is played every year for Martin Blackley from Aultbea who passed away in 2002 at the age of just 26, and we were honoured to be asked this year to provide the opposition.

Thanks to our hosts for the invite and for the fantastic pre-match and post-match hospitality at the Ullapool golf course Club.

Harris took the lead in the first half but were unaccustomed to the hot conditions and eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat.

But now we have a taste for it (we do???), we’ll be looking to arrange a few more fixtures on the island later this year against local opposition...
