"The highest virtue of the warrior is Makoto, or simply 'ma': to be true to oneself and to others. This is the origin of 'aiki' ( 合 気). It requires living in the moment, beyond conceptuality or self-seeking motivation.
It is sincerity and honesty; seeing things just as they are. ..

Classes restart on Monday 9th January. 19:30-21:00.
Learn self defence.
Improve fitness and confidence.
Aikido Pure and Simple.

One of the first things we learn in any martial art is the proper way to ‘stand’.
Kamae is basic and natural, it is more than just a stance (which might often just refer to footwork). Kamae addresses the entire body posture and studies the correct way to align and ground with the earth
(also inclusive is a mental posture -
something we will address later…)

Since we are only as good as our foundation, strive to make this posture excellent - because this Kamae is essentially what ‘holds’ you.
Also, kamae is not just about being in a ‘ready’ stance at the beginning of technique - this posture is maintained throughout.
In the beginning, through transitions, and in the end (zanshin).
This ‘readiness’ posture is felt as a pause, not interrupting the midst of flow.
We maintain our structural integrity.
We are relaxed and ready.
And we remain grounded and solid

Hi Everyone, here is the new Makotokai page. Unfortunately the last page disappeared, and with it lots of posts and memories of the late Sensei Billy Coyle.
Please feel free to use this space to share memories, pictures or posts associated with Sensei Coyle and or Makotokai.
