On the mat matter

The story you tell yourself matters because it effects your state of being.

I only lost that quarter final once but every time i would tell the poor version of that story my whole body & mind felt like it was losing it again and again…and i didn’t even realise it.

Eventually after years of torturing myself i realised there was a lot more to that story and my wrestling career is not defined by one tournament or one loss.

Since i started this sport in 1999 i have achieved so much domestically. My youth career coming with a plethora of medals and championship wins with becoming British Champion the only title to eluded me in that time.

In my senior career i won 2 British titles with a 3rd shared. Multiple other competition wins and many competitions across the world.

However my story didn’t finish on the mat or in 2014 in that one match. I continued winning other medals, i tried for two other Games teams only narrowly missing out on the criteria for the Gold Coast in 2018 & Birmingham in 2022.

Since then i have went on to create the UKs first proper pathway program that encourages participation & retention at club level.
As a club we have won awards for the innovation and success we have brought to the club and wrestling.

We have barely scratched the surface with where we are aiming to take this brand and what we want to achieve with it.

Sometimes a little adversity is what you need to drive real progress. So i am grateful for the lessons that failure has taught me cause i am another step closer to a win having gone through it.

It is with enormous appreciation that we can announce we have been awarded British Wrestling club of the year 2026!

Congratulations to everyone associated with the club.

Its been some effort by many to get us to this point in 2.5years and we are just getting started.

The next 2.5 are going to be epic as we expand our junior character programme.

Thank you to everyone who nominated us! Vasile and myself were also nominated in the Coach of the year category so thank you.

On top of that Scotland received an award for region of the year.
Furthermore, the Scottish championships was recognised as event of the year 2026.

Finally thank you to for putting on their award ceremony to celebrate our great sport across the country.
