Three games into the season…first report…why? Because I simply couldn’t harness my rage to bring myself to write anything! Beaten in both those games. Not the start we were looking for. Our last game resulted in our stand-in keeper getting sent off after approx 5 mins. Never wanted to murder a guy in a team I’m involved with before…I came close! ⚰️🧤 Less said about those performances the better!

Last night our league campaign really started! A 4-0 victory at home vs St Andrews. We are plagued with injury, particularly in attacking positions but every player who was available stepped up! 💪🏼

Both teams with slightly depleted squads started the game well. I asked for intensity, I asked for pace, I asked for every player to show desire, I asked for quality in the final third. The guys delivered! 👌🏼

Leon Kondol stepped back into his favoured striker role and after an inch perfect long ball, Leon evaded the defenders to meet the keeper one on one. From 15 yards he curled the ball into the far corner with poise and confidence (two words not often associated with ‘mr score 1 in 10 chances’!). First half finished 1-0 1️⃣

Some personnel changes at half time gave us fresh legs and the performance lifted. Leading to a well worked corner which saw Danny ‘The Engine Room’ Stevenson nick in at the front post to fire home a bullet header. 2-0 2️⃣

Steve McBride was returning from a few weeks out with broken ribs and looked sharp throughout the game. Had a few chances but it seemed like the elusive goal wouldn’t come. Until Danny drove down the left hand side to fire a pass along the deck into the waiting McBride who slotted home with a deft touch (maybe back heel - debatable!) 3-0 3️⃣

Kondol had switched to right wing back position to give us more legs out there and with 10 mins to go he burst through the Saints defence to chip the keeper and put the three points beyond any reasonable doubt ( lawyer pun, if ye know ye know) He said it’s the best goal that’s ever been scored in history. It’s nice to see that a human being can actually survive day to day life with that level of delusion. To quote Roy Keane - “Calm doon wee sacks. You scored a goal. That’s your job!” (Well maybe Keano never said the “wee sacks” bit!) 4-0 4️⃣

Defensively sound - Aldo, Captain Chris and Wardy all solid! Andy Gregg and Speedy shored things up when legs and injuries set in later in the game.

Midfield - Ryan Bell was an absolute machine. Pretty sure playing with a broken hand for about 45 mins! 😨 Wee Stu controlled the game throughout. Absolute standout and MOM! 🍾 Wellsy stepped into the middle of the park from the start and delivered a great performance. Pup came on in the second half and as usual settled things down. Guys quality and if it hadn’t been for Leon getting in the way might have scored a screamer! 🚀 New signing Scotty (another Polis in the team 😱) ran the channels well and was brave going forward!

Scott Currie came on in the second half up top. Been desperate to get minutes under his belt but fell foul to a knee injury shortly after coming on. Felt so bad for the big man! 😞

It was a pleasure to watch the guys last night!

In other news….it was the last game of a 9 game ban for Gaffer G Yuill! Back in action for a trip to Denny in two weeks time! Watch out lads! I’m comin for your jersey! 😎

Have a good weekend men! ⚫️⚪️🙌🏼⚫️⚪️

Muirhead 1 vs 1 Strathclyde Thistle

Our pre-season campaign came to an end with a cracking game against Premier League stalwarts Strathclyde Thistle.

I genuinely thought we might be punching a bit above our weight on this occasion but we held our own for the majority of the game.

Game plan - overload the midfield and press the opposition. Don’t give them a minute! Stuck to that and it paid off. The central midfield three of Leon, Dominator Sloan and Pup 🐶 were outstanding. Supported on the wing by yet another solid display by Danny Stevenson. His engine, dig and enthusiasm to drive down the line as well as defend has been a game changer recently! 💪🏼

The combination of Big Rab ‘The Jab’ Welsh and Muirhead new (old 😅) boy Francey was a match made in heaven! Strength, running and intelligence! Combining beautifully to put us 1-0 up in the first half.

The defence of Big Barlow, Andy ’Need a wheelchair after 10 mins’ Ward and newly crowned Captain Chrissy ‘I’m an 8 in the Daily Record every week’ Martin weren’t too troubled by a very well organised Strathy attacking line up.

It was always going to be tough to maintain the intensity of the first half and Thistle did eventually break us down and equalise. After that there was a bit of an onslaught for a period of 10 mins but some world class saves from our new keeper big Kev ‘Safe Hands’ Devine kept the game all square.

The introduction of Aldo MacDonald, Andy Gregg, Wellsy and trialists Scott Allan and Darren Johnston all played their part. 👏🏼

If we put in a performance like that in our first league at home next Friday we’ll do alright! 🙌🏼

Come along next Friday 3rd March at Chryston School to see us kick off the league campaign! ⚽️🏆⚽️

Muirhead 6-2 Falkirk

As the sun set on Friday night a team of ageing warriors set out on a journey to claim the last piece of silverware available this season! 🏆

The lads entered the first round of the Kenny Parry Memorial Trophy with an air of confidence that normally means only one thing…victory!! The gaffer was slightly more hesitant as he knew the opposition were no mugs. They had went the distance in their own league and were only pipped to the championship post on the final game of the season. He was also conscious that 80% of the team hadn’t kicked a ball in nearly two months! Caution in the initial stage of the game was paramount.

However, the boys came out the traps firing, so it wasn’t long before the first goal arrived. Some neat passing play down the right led to a pinpoint cross being swung to the back post. Poised to convert was ‘Sargent Sare Legs’ Ryan Bell. He wrapped the nut on the ball like it was a drain pipe he used to heedbut mwi in the early naughties! The ball and keeper had nae chance. 1💥

The lads kept the pressure on which led to confusion and a misplaced pass at the back from the opposition. Big Rab the Jab pounced and then played an inch perfect pass inside beyond the keeper for the oncoming Big bad Joe Sheilds to slot home. 2 🦧

The 42 year old who wears small boys clothing, Leon Kondol, got himself into a situation where he was one-on-one with the keeper. His record of scoring approx 1 out of 10 of those type of chances would suggest the score was staying as is…but…the wee fella found his finishing boots! Slotted home! The packed Chryston High Arena fell silent in utter shock that he’d actually converted! 3 🤙

It was a night for the Polis to impress as Brian Langan, sand danced past the Falkirk midfield, composed himself and curled one into the top right corner from 25 yards. Cultured finish from the veteran copper! 4 🐷

Muirhead’s answer to the Liver King, big Rab, played out his skin and for most of the game was literally unplayable. After dragging the Falkirk defence all over the camp like a silver back making love to an inflatable s*x doll he outmuscled them and flew down the right wing to unleash an absolute bullet to get a very well deserved goal! (Joint) MOM performance from Rab. Superb! 5 🦍🍾

The moment of the match though has to go to mr groin strain himself - Big Bad Joe! A foul given 30 yards from goal. Poised over the ball every spectator thought this giant of a man was gonna blooter the ho**er right oota the ball! With row z beckoning (surely!) he started to bend his run towards the set piece. Just like Trent against the mob who shall not be named he bends the ball into the top left corner! Outstanding stuff! Got his brace and two mins later…yip…you guessed it…went off with a groin strain!🧑‍🦽6

Even though big Jamie ‘Simmy the cat’ Simpson let in two (neither of which he could do much about) he put in an absolutely superb performance! Rolling back the years with fantastic saves and manoeuvring around that 6 yard box with moves that an Olympic gymnast would be proud of. Incredible stuff! Joint MOM with big Rab🧤 🍾

Best performance in a while. Every player involved played out their skin! Onwards to Alexandria on Friday 21st Oct for our 2nd round match against Haldane.
