Weโ€™re excited to invite you to the first event in the new JKS Glasgow Development Series 2026/27! ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ“… Sunday 22nd November 2026
๐Ÿ“ JKS Glasgow HQ, South Street, Glasgow
๐ŸฅŠ Series 1 โ€“ Kumite

The Development Series has been created to give newer and less-experienced competitors regular opportunities to compete, build confidence and gain valuable competition experience in a friendly and supportive environment.

Across 2026/27 we plan to hold four development events โ€“ two Kumite and two Kata competitions โ€“ with points accumulated throughout the series and awards presented at the end of 2027.

Who is the series for?

This is a development competition and is specifically aimed at competitors who are still gaining experience.

To protect the level and purpose of the event, students who currently represent JKS Scotland at external competitions such as the Penrith Open, North East Open, Irish Open or similar events will not be eligible to compete in the Development Series.

We absolutely still want our more experienced competitors involved! Those students are very welcome to attend and gain experience on the other side of competition by assisting with:

๐Ÿฅ‹ Judging / refereeing
โฑ๏ธ Table officiating
๐Ÿ“‹ Competition support

It gives our experienced competitors the opportunity to contribute to the development of the next group coming through.

Series 1 โ€“ Kumite

Our first event will focus entirely on Kumite, with categories ranging from our youngest Kitsune Kids aged 4โ€“6 through to adult and 35+ competitors.

We will also run Kickmaster categories for younger competitors who are beginning their competition journey.

Competitors can enter Kickmaster and their appropriate Kumite category, giving them the opportunity to gain additional competition experience during the event.

Standard Kumite categories will broadly cover:

7โ€“8 | 9โ€“10 | 11โ€“13 | 14โ€“15 | 16โ€“17 | 18+ | 35+

with male/female and grade divisions where numbers allow.

Where categories have low entries, appropriate divisions may be merged based on age, grade, experience and competitor numbers.

Coaching at the event

To make sure every competitor receives the same level of support, all competition coaching on the day will be provided by the JKS Glasgow coaching team.

This allows us to provide a consistent and fair experience for every student, regardless of which club they train with.

We would therefore really appreciate visiting instructors and experienced competitors supporting the running of the event as judges, referees and table officials where possible.

The aim is for everyone involved to contribute to creating a positive development environment for all competitors.

๐Ÿ† Development Series

The emphasis throughout the series will be:

Compete โ€ข Learn โ€ข Develop โ€ข Progress

Results are important, but the main aim is to give competitors more mat time, confidence and experience before progressing into larger competitions.

Entries are now OPEN

๐Ÿ‘‰ Register here:
https://karate-event-os.base44.app/events/6aa56f7f9f0ae927e4d90741/register

Running times will be confirmed once entries have closed so we can organise the categories efficiently and keep waiting times to a minimum.

Weโ€™re really looking forward to getting the JKS Glasgow Development Series underway and giving the next group of competitors a platform to develop. ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿ†

If you ask a child why they like karate, you'll probably hear:

"Because I like kicking things." ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ask their parents and the answers are usually very different.

"My confidence has improved."

"They're much more focused."

"They've made new friends."

"They finally found a sport they enjoy."

"They've become more independent."

Of course we want our students to become good karateka.

But we're just as interested in what karate helps them become outside the dojo.

Parents, what positive change have YOU noticed since your child started karate?

We'd love to hear them below ๐Ÿ‘‡โค๏ธ

Competition teamโ€ฆ it's nearly time. ๐Ÿ‘Š

This Sunday members of the JKS Glasgow Competition Team head to the Karate Scotland International Open at Ravenscraig.

Competition isn't just about collecting medals.

It's about having the confidence to step onto the tatami.

Testing yourself under pressure.

Learning what worked.

Learning what didn't.

Then getting back into the dojo and improving.

Some competitors will come home with medals.

Others might come home with the lesson that leads to their next one.

Both matter. ๐Ÿฅ‹

Good luck to everyone representing JKS Glasgow this weekend.

Fight hard. Support each other. Enjoy it. โค๏ธ

A lot has changed at JKS Glasgow over the last year, and we're not finished yet. ๐Ÿ‘€

With our additional dojo space now giving us more room to work with, we're able to think differently about how we run classes and create even more opportunities for our students.

That means:

๐Ÿฅ‹ More space in busy classes
๐Ÿฅ‹ Greater opportunity to split students by age or ability
๐Ÿฅ‹ More specialist training
๐Ÿฅ‹ More events and workshops
๐Ÿฅ‹ More room for the club to keep growing

For us, growth isn't just about having more members.

It's about making sure the quality of training keeps improving as the club grows too.

We're really excited about what this next stage will allow us to do. โค๏ธ

One of the things we're incredibly proud of at JKS Glasgow is that what we teach here in Glasgow has a direct connection back to Japan and the roots of our karate. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿฅ‹

Being part of JKS means our students have opportunities to learn from some of the world's leading Japanese instructors, both here in Scotland and through international training.

And next month we get another opportunity to do exactly that.

Three sessions covering:

๐Ÿฅ‹ All Grades / Mixed Abilities

These visits aren't something we take for granted.

They give our students the opportunity to keep learning, developing and experiencing authentic JKS karate without having to travel thousands of miles to do it.

We can't wait. ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

Small students. BIG personalities. ๐Ÿ˜„

Our Kitsune Kids programme for ages 4โ€“6 is all about giving children the perfect introduction to karate.

At this age we're not expecting 40 minutes of military precision!

We're building the foundations through:

๐ŸฆŠ Listening
๐ŸฆŠ Coordination
๐ŸฆŠ Confidence
๐ŸฆŠ Balance
๐ŸฆŠ Following instructions
๐ŸฆŠ Learning basic karate
๐ŸฆŠ And, most importantlyโ€ฆ having fun!

With our new dojo space giving us more flexibility than ever, it's a brilliant time for younger children to get started.

What are we actually trying to build at JKS Glasgow?

Yes, we teach karate.

But behind every punch, kick and kata there's something much bigger happening.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Confidence
๐Ÿ‘Š Resilience
๐Ÿค Friendships
๐ŸŽฏ Focus
๐Ÿ’ช Fitness
โค๏ธ A sense of belonging

From our youngest Kitsune Kids at 4 years old, right through to our adults, competitors and black belts, we want JKS Glasgow to be somewhere people enjoy coming to, and somewhere they feel part of something.

Karate might be what brings people through the door.

The people are what make the club. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿฅ‹โค๏ธ IT'S ABOUT MORE THAN KARATE.

Of course we want our students to become great karatekaโ€ฆ

But some of the best parts of being in a club are the friendships, memories and confidence they build along the way.

Thatโ€™s exactly why we run events like thisโ€ฆ
