MEET THE COMMITTEE
Erik Gibson – CX and Trips Convenor
Introducing Erik, a fifth-year aeronautical engineering student who has taken on the role of organising our fantastic trips this year. Erik has many fond memories of our yearly trips to Glentress and also has had his own adventures further afield which have made for some brilliant memories. You’ll most likely find Erik riding endless laps of the Old Kilpatricks where he loves to spend his summer days and hopes that this year, he can help new riders fall in love with the trails too. Erik’s claim to fame is that he can now fix almost all of his bike by himself (impressive I know) and loves to embrace his Swedish heritage by visiting Ikea for their legendary meatballs every now and then!
If you think you’d like to come on some of our brilliant cycling trips this year, why not come and see us at the freshers sports fayre on the 12th and 13th of September!

MEET THE COMMITTEE 2021/22
Craig Cochrane – Road Convenor
Craig is a 2nd year electronics and electrical engineering student from Dunfermline who will be organising our road rides this year. Craig has ridden since 2017 when he got his first road bike and with the help of his local club, has continued to get faster and faster. Craig chooses the countries with the worst weather to tour including Ireland where he was probably better swimming than cycling. This year, he hopes to regain some of his KOMs and get lots of riders out on the Sunday road sessions.

MEET THE COMMITTEE 2021/22
Molly Doyle - Publicity convenor
Next up is Molly, a 3rd year medical student from the isle of Bute who will be in charge of all things social media and publicity this year. Molly has ridden a bike since before she could walk and helps her dad organise a successful weekend of racing in her hometown every year. She enjoys both track and road cycling and loves the social aspect of getting on the bike. Molly hopes to help increase uptake of cycling for people of all abilities so that others can enjoy it as much as her. This year, Molly hopes to do her first 100 mile ride and to get back into the velodrome!

MEET THE COMMITTEE 2021/22
With only a few weeks to go until freshers week, we thought we’d introduce our committee for 2021/22! First up is our social convenor, Jacob who is in his 2nd year and looking forward to getting socials up and running after a long year of zoom quizzes. Despite having started uni during covid and never having visited Hive, he promises to deliver at least one Lycra Hive this year!
Jacob got into cycling when his mountain bike was stolen, which made him take the jump into road cycling and has never looked back. During his career, he has ridden through France following the tour and has also featured as an extra in a Netflix film or two. Keep an eye out for upcoming socials, they’re not to be missed!

Last and certainly not least, we have our BNOC Neah Evans! Neah is a big name in the world of track cycling so if you don’t already know her, prepare to be amazed! A Glasgow University student and member of the GB cycling team, Neah has been cycling for 6 years, having taken up the sport to ‘keep fit’ following a running injury! Now Neah is a full-time professional athlete, training in Manchester, and has an impressive collection of World, European and Commonwealth medals to her name!

We always joke that GUCC is made up almost entirely of engineers and med students and we’re not far wrong! Today we are introducing two keen medics and keen cyclists Molly and Monica! Scotland, in particular, the Highlands and Islands are where these girls love to ride and we love to see them both on and off the saddle at GUCC organised training and socials.

“Cycling” comes in many forms and disciplines, downhill and XC mountain biking, hill climbs, cyclocross, and crit races are just some of the muddy and exciting events some of our girls get up to. Eva is one of our mountain biker’s who got into cycling 5 years ago, as an alternative adrenaline-fuelled sport to horse riding. Another Cecile Uttrup Ludwig fan and talented rider Grace has also been riding for 5 years, joining the club in her second year and has since left to study for an MSc in Newcastle. They’ve shared a few favourite and funny cycling moments along with a bit of advice for anyone who may have been inspired by our incredible GUCC women!

We talked to two of our committee, and post-graduate members, Alexandra and Cara. Both have been cycling around 3 years now but whilst Alexandra is a racer at heart, Cara is more likely to be found in the line-up at a cafe than a start line! Last year Alexandra competed both on the track and on the road, including BUCS track, and this year she has been named part of the Torvelo Cycling Team and will focus on Time Trials. An amazing achievement, especially as she originally only took up cycling as a commute to university!
