A huge May Bank Holiday weekend in the Highlands ποΈ
Yes, we knowβ¦ itβs already the second May bank holiday, but recovery time from all the trad climbing, Munros, Corbetts and Torridon epics clearly delayed the post π
Big days out, first Munros for some members, dry rock, good company and surprisingly decent weather. Already looking forward to the next one β°οΈπ§ββοΈ

Over the weekend, a small group of members headed over to Arran for a camping meet. They set up a base camp in Glen Rosa, from which there was plenty of climbing to be hadβincluding ascents of classic routes like South Ridge Direct.
One team enjoyed it so much they got a bit carried away and even missed their ferry home on Sunday night!

Did someone say rock season. There may still be some winter to be had in Scotland but we have had members also starting to get to grips with rock again. Here are a selection of photos from the weekend. With it starting to feel like spring time now is a great time to get out and get rock climbing.

JMCS CIC Meet Round-Up ποΈ
A proper bluebird start to the weekend gave us two brilliant days on the hill, before deteriorating avalanche conditions on Sunday meant all teams made the sensible call to head home that morning.
Friday saw Lee, Pete & Sean kick things off with Glovers Chimney, finishing the day with a dark ascent of Tower Ridge from the gap, big day out and a proper adventure.
Also on Friday, Jeremy & Oli climbed Vanishing Gully, making the most of the lean but climbable conditions on the first pitch from where things got much better.
Saturday proved popular on Italian Right Hand, with Dave, Tom, Jeremy & Oli joining what seemed like half of Scotland on the route! Classic lines are classic for a reason.
Meanwhile, Mark & Neil got stuck into Compression Crack β technical and absorbing from start to finish.
After a well-earned lie in, Lee, Pete & Sean switched to Plan B and tackled Gardyloo Gully, complete with a spicy finish to keep things interesting.
Big thanks to everyone for a safe, social and well-managed meet. Great to see strong decision-making when conditions turned. Roll on the next one! βοΈπͺ

βοΈ January CIC Joint Meet | SMC x JMCS βοΈ
A cracking wintery weekend up at the CIC with teams getting out despite proper Scottish conditions.
Multiple teams from the meet climbed South West Ridge Direct on the Douglas Boulder, while Mark & Seb battled their way up North East Buttress in seriously arduous conditions πͺπ₯Ά
Lee & Dean headed up early on Friday, getting some mileage in on the CIC ice falls on top rope before the rest of the crew arrived π§ββοΈ
For many, the real crux of the weekend wasnβt on the route at allβ¦ but escaping the icy car park ππ§
Classic winter, great company, and proper type-2 fun. Same again soon π

JMCS Self-Rescue Course β 18 Oct 2025
JMCS has loads of incredibly capable climbers in the club β but learning never stops! πͺ
We recently ran a self-rescue course at Auchinstarry Quarry, led by club member and Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor Neil Redgrave, alongside Will Murray from οΏΌ.
These sessions are absolutely invaluable β and could genuinely be lifesavers. Even if itβs just a refresher, itβs always worth brushing up on those essential skills. We covered:
π§ββοΈ Abseiling past a knot
π§ Unassisted and assisted hoists
π¨ Escaping the system
π Recovering an injured climber on abseil
A big well done to the eight members who came along and threw themselves into the training β great energy all round! π
What other training courses would you like to see the club running? Let us know in the comments π
Interested in joining a training course or getting involved with JMCS? Head over to our website to find out more and get in touch β weβre always keen to welcome new members!
