What a busy weekend it was, on all sorts of terrain, and all across the UK 🇬🇧

Our latest 'short' Club Championship (CC) race took place at Largs parkrun on Saturday 🌊 well done to everyone who ventured down to a showery, blustery Ayrshire coast. It was the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club - SVHC Cross Country Trials for the British & Irish Masters on Saturday at Tollcross Park 🇬🇧🇮🇪 8k for the gents and 6k for the ladies, and always a challenging course 👊 fantastic performances from Oscar Coetzee 26:02 2nd overall🥈Cathy Wood 23:46 1st FV35🥇Jen Conway-Evans 23:52 2nd FV35🥈Claire Wharton 26:11 👏 so Oscar, Cathy & Jen all qualify for the finals in Dublin in November 🇮🇪🤩 Claire just missed out unfortunately despite a brilliant run 💜

It was also the hilly Kyles 10 Miles on Saturday at Kames ⛰️ a 'medium' CC event, with a great Bella turnout 💜 very well done to Bryan Mulgrew, who was 3rd in an amazing 1:00:18🥉great going too by Colin Hughes 1:05:57 2nd MV60🥈 Martin Murphy 1:25:23, Shirley Wieland 1:26:37 2nd FV60🥈 Frank Thielen 1:28:05, Roz Wilson 1:28:59, Wallace Gray 1:29:10, Louise Nimmo 1:42:02, Louise Gray 1:44:27, Terry Nimmo 1:49:33, Stevie Bell 2:30:36 1st MV70🥇

First off on Sunday was the Kilmacolm Half Marathon ⛰️ a West District Championship event on a beautiful morning 😎 some scorching performances from Oscar Coetzee 1:12:15 3rd🥉1st M40🥇Calum Borthwick 1:12:33 5th, 3rd MSnr🥉 Amelia Matthews 1:24:50 2nd lady🥈1st F30🥇 Ronnie Hart 1:28:14 2nd M50🥈Jamie Wieland 1:30:33, Deborah Gray 1:30:54 2nd F40+🥈1st F50🥇 Conan McCreadie 1:32:57 PB 2nd MU21🥈🤩 Sandy Macdonald 1:34:23, Laura Henderson 1:53:10, Camilla Cunningham 2:07:20, Murdoch Rodgers 2:12:39 1st M70🥇 in the 10k Ross Gale finished 2nd in a brilliant 34:24🥈

And south of the border there were a couple of big events 🇬🇧 it was the Great North Run on Sunday, the world's biggest HM 🫡 great going by Mark Young 1:25:04, Chic Forsyth 1:29:32, Pauline Wright 1:46:01 👏 and further down, it was the Richmond Marathon 🌳 starting in Kew Gardens and passing some famous royal palaces and bridges before finishing at a music festival in Old Deer Park 👑 very well done to Gayle McKay 4:18:35 & Pauline Bradley 4:59:40 👏

It’s all about the running isn’t it??

WRONG!!!! It’s all about the CAKE…after the running!! 🍰😍

The Jimmy Irvine 10K is famous for our post race spread of sandwiches and many types of cake which are made by our fantastic members 🤩

There’s usually lots of treats like cheesecake, malteser cake and caramel shortbread, but this year we’re happy to take requests!

We're looking forward to welcoming folk at our training session as part of Glasgow Life Sport 'Give it a go Glasgow - Club Open Doors' initiative the next few weeks 👋

Well done to our 27 Pollok parkrun volunteers on Saturday 🙏 and of course, congratulations to our Rhoda Yarmahoudi on her 250th parkrun AND 250th volunteer stint!

The brilliant Cat MacDonald represented Scottish Athletics again in Italy on Saturday, at the 'Vertical' Trofeo Nasego International Mountain Race in Casto, Italy 🏔🇮🇹 from bottom to top, 1,000m of ascent on the 4.2k course in 56:04 👏 well done Cat!

And speaking of mountains, well done to Simon Wells, who ran the Ben Nevis Race on Saturday 🏔 14k with 1,345m of ascent to the summit, then back down 🥵 a brilliant effort in 1:31:40 👏

Sunday 'Scilly Season' now, and the amazing Jordan Davidson was in action in the most southerly part of the British Isles, for the Scilly 60 Ultra 🏝 60k run over 5 islands, with boat transfers after each stage with St Mary's (17k), St Martin's (10k), Tresco (11k), Bryher (8k), St Agnes (9k) & St Mary's again (5k) 🥵 an incredible 6th place finish in 4:59:44 🤩 what a trip and performance!

Speaking of ultras 😁 well done to Helen Winning & Caroline Munro, who ran the windy Tiree Ultra Relay on Sunday 🌊 17 miles each, including on some lovely white sands 🏖 well done ladies 👏

There were also a couple of notable Half Marathons on Sunday, starting in Budapest 🇭🇺 with great running by Gianluigi Re 1:38:13 & Laura Loddo 1:49:47 👏 both with PBs too 🤩 and there was a brilliant PB 1:26:15 and 2nd place finish for Michael Rice at the Run Nation Strathclyde Park HM 🤩🥈

It was the Podfather Stirling 10k on Sunday morning, with ten Bellas racing on a bit of a soggy morning ☔️ one of our regular Club Championship events, and great results from Oscar Coetzee 32:19 2nd MV40🥈David Jarrett 35:06, Bruce Carmichael 35:09 2nd MV50🥈Jay Cowan 37:55, Callum Dickson 39:12, Cara Thom 39:29 PB 🤩 Abby McGlone 40:41, Veronica Fusaro 44:12, Nick Smith 44:48, Murdoch Rodgers 55:34 👏

A true BRR legend, Bryan will be with you from the starting gun right through to the finish line - cheering, motivating, and keeping the energy sky-high the whole way 💪

Not only is he a superstar race commentator, he’s also part of Bella history as our very first club champion! 🤩

It was the August 3k on the Green on Friday, of course labelled as 'The Best Wee Race in Scotland' 🌳 this was one of our 'short' Club Championship events, and we had a great group of Bellas running with Jordan Davidson 9:53 3rd🥉Sam Ramsay 10:47, Jamie Wieland 11:26, David Pattison 12:01, Pauline Wright 13:35, Pauline Bradley 15:24, Gayle McKay 15:34, Mandy Morgan 15:35, Lucy MacKay 16:23, Lynne Goldie 17:20 👏

It was a warm one on Saturday for the 18th Highland Fling Race 85k Ultra Trail, from Milgavie to Tyndrum ⛰️ our Mighty Murphys were participating on the tough course, that includes around 2,300m of ascent 🥵 great performances as usual by Grant 10:02:00 & Iain 10:48:01 🫡

It's our annual parkrun volunteer takeover this Saturday, 5th September, at Pollok 🌳 we'll have over 20 members helping and encouraging the field 👏 we had a good number out on Saturday past, including ⬇️

What a day! Our members were treated to a training day led by the fantastic Nick Anderson from Runningwithus 🤩

Nick took us through our paces with a park session in the morning and very informative and engaging talks in the afternoon 💜
