🚲 NEWS: More bikes than cars on Leith Walk in morning rush hour; record cycle counts and record cycling modal share on multiple routes in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The latest data from Cycling Scotland traffic surveys and cycle counter analysis, shows the continuing success of high-quality cycle lanes in Scotland.

Among the findings from Cycling Scotland's latest all-mode traffic surveys organised on 13th and 14th May:

➡️ More bikes than cars recorded at rush hour on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk for first time
➡️ Edinburgh’s York Place records its highest cycling modal share yet (4.7% of all journeys were by bike, up from only 2.1% in May 2021)
➡️ Glasgow’s Victoria Road sees continuing growth in cycling, with 38% more daily bike journeys than the year before
➡️ Three Glasgow streets with new dedicated cycle lanes recorded their highest ever cycling modal shares – Clyde Street (13.6%), Garscube Road (6.2%) and Victoria Road (16.6%)
➡️ Cycling more than doubled on Glasgow’s East City Way following route improvements, rising to 700 bike journeys per day in May 2026, up from 300 per day in May 2024
➡️ Strong peaks in morning and evening rush hours show that improved cycle routes are helping more people travel by bike for everyday journeys, like getting to and from work

🚲🩺 Kirsty, an NHS health visitor who uses her bike to get to work and appointments in Glasgow, said: "I've found that cycling is much quicker than driving. I feel so much safer on the cycle lane where I know that that area is for people on bikes, and there are no cars."

We would love to see more people out on our weekly daytime and evening rides!

We have bikes, helmets, good waterproofs and gloves available to use.

Monday and Wednesday's morning ride leaves at 10am and is back for 12, perfect if you have kids dropped off at school or nursery!

Monday and Thursday evenings leave at 6.30pm, usually back by 9pm, occasionally later for Thursdays.

If you would like to use one of our bikes, please arrive at the hub around 10-15 minutes before the ride starts.

We have cycling skills available 5.30pm on Monday or 12.30pm on Wednesday if you would like to come along to practice first :)

From our first wave to our final finishers, we had a fantastic day for our annual Wheel N Walk Family event. A huge thanks to our amazing support team, ride leaders, mechanics and volunteers, we could not run our event without every single one of you 🩷 more pictures soon!

Unfortunately we have recently encountered a FAKE account posing as the cycle hub who has been stealing our images too. See below 'Drumchapel Cycles Hub'. This scammer has taken money from one of our members 😓 for a cycle lesson. We messaged with the scammer yesterday and don't believe them to be in this country, understand English very well or know anything about bikes at all 🤣 please don't accept friend requests from them and please double check if you are commenting or messaging us!

Please be advised that the workshop is CLOSED today due to an emergency. (Open again on Friday.)

The morning group cycle is on as usual from 10-12 noon with bikes and helmets available to use. This ride is free so come along about 9.50 and join in!

We have cycling AND walking options available. The walk will be the beautiful Drumchapel Way led by the Ramblers Association.

We have LOTS of fantastic refurbished bikes currently available on our Kids Bike Library.

Our family membership is only £20 a year and you can take away a bike for your kids! (Up to 3 kids!).

Your children keep them until they grow out of it, it doesn't get used or needs a repair.

Donate or repair your old bikes, don't throw them away!
