We're a small and friendly group that was founded to be run by the members for the members. Don't think of these as "led walks" with a professional guide.

We organise a wide range of walks - from single Munros, to multiple Munros, scrambling over ridges, weekends away and a selection of low level longer walks, pub walks and summer evening walks. We also have a dedicated core of rock climbers - with weekly meetups at the Glasgow Climbing Centre (who kindly give us a range of discounts), occasional trips to Ratho and other venues as well as outside ro

We are looking to recruit a freelance coordinator to help us run our weekly climbing group at The Climbing Academy (TCA) Prop Store in Maryhill. We work with small groups to create a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can: learn new skills, build their confidence, improve their strength and fitness, meet new people, and have fun.

The role involves supporting people managing or recovering from mental illness and working with volunteers, so we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills.
The post is a mix of administrative and practical tasks, office/home based as well as at the Prop Store and would be 10 hours per week over 44 weeks.

If you don't have the relevant skills, it is definitely worth finding a course. It is always good to set aside time to practice the ones you have, just in case. Every winter, I take one day practicing step cutting, front pointing, self arrest etc

Below is an email from a colleague concerning aid for Ukraine. As walkers and climbers you may have some old warm clothes you may wish to donate.

From a colleague:
“People from polish community are making packages for people who stayed in Ukraine. Things that they need:
· Sleeping bags
· Blankets
· Warm clothes
· Decent warm shoes (mostly for men at front)
· Candles
· Painkillers and antiseptic liquids
· Bandages
· Pampers for kids
· Pads for women
· Hygiene products
· Canned food (not soups because they can get damaged during transportation and destroy other things).
· If you can help that will be great, any help is needed.
Products and packages you can be brought to: "Atlas Kitchens and bathrooms" 120 Queen Margaret Drive G20 8NZ in Glasgow from Monday to this Friday from 9am to 4:30pm or "THE Studio" 45 Oswald Street G1 4PA Glasgow from Sunday to this Friday from 11am till 7pm. Boxes should be unsealed and with a list and how many kg the package is. This is so is can be easily sorted for transport.
Otherwise, if you want to make a monetary donation this is a vetted charity based in Lithuania that has been supporting Ukrainians soldiers and civilians affected by war since 2014:

Climbers! We need your help! alien bloc is under long-term existential threat due to potential redevelopment of the site by new landlord. There is an online public consultation this Wednesday 24th November with the ability to learn more about their intentions and get involved in influencing this at an early stage.

Without public support from climbers like you , the ability to go to a large indoor climbing wall in central Edinburgh could be lost - possibly forever. Please share this information, visit the link below , register for webinar, get in contact with development team and express your opinion on this situation. The public consultation will hopefully influence the planning application which is likely to be submitted in Spring 2022

Thank you ,

alien team !

Some of you may have seen a facebook post involving "advice" on what to do if you find yourself in an unlikely situation with a low phone battery. Please read this https://www.facebook.com/MountaineeringScotland/posts/4812841848740708

A Facebook post has been doing the rounds recently advising people what to do if they find themselves lost or stranded with low battery or no phone signal. It involves changing your voicemail message to give your approximate position and circumstances so that anyone who calls you will receive this information even if you totally run out of battery or signal.
Whether or not this would actually work, it’s hardly the best use of a failing battery.
Mountaineering Scotland’s Mountain Safety Advisor Heather Morning says: “If you are in an emergency situation the most important thing to do is dial 999, ask for Police, and then for Mountain Rescue. A 999 call will get through on any network, even if your own is not available.
“If the signal is poor, it may still be enough to allow you to send a text message to 999, with your position and brief details of the problem. Although you have to pre-register your phone to be able to do this, it’s quick and easy to do.
“You can also find out your exact location using the free OS Locate app, which gives your position in the tried and tested format used by Mountain Rescue Teams.”
Find out more about calling Mountain Rescue and how to register your phone for 999 texts at: https://www.mountaineering.scot/safety-and-skills/essential-skills/mountain-rescue/calling-for-help
