What a 4 days we’ve had!!!!

An Honour and a privilege to welcome Bowls Malaysia & Para Bowls Singapore to WoS as they continue preparations for Glasgow 26 Commonwealth Games.

The kindness, sportsmanship and friendship made will last forever in the memories for our members and visitors alike. We hope our 2 day test Match has readied you for the Four Nation test event next week and beyond. Good luck to all those vying for selection to represent at the commonwealth games 🤞🏻

I’d personally like to thank our members, committee & staff for their support. I hope you all enjoyed testing your skills against some of the Worlds finest players 👏🏻👏🏻

Firstly Congratulations to Captain Abbie Harris in her last test match at the age level alongside her teammates in bringing home the trophy for the SYIBA 👏🏻👏🏻

More importantly it has been announced the retirement of Davie Ferguson as Scotland Team Manager. Davie has been become synonymous with the SYIBA as without one you wouldn’t have the other.

Our club coach and Secretary here at WoS Neil Mcmonagle has worked alongside Davie for over 2 decades in the promotion of young bowlers across the land and on behalf of all the players who have came through the ranks we say thank you for the opportunities your tireless work and dedication to our sport. I’m sure the new managers and committees will be more than keen to pick up the phone for those words of wisdom as the future generation make their way through the fantastic SYIBA structure.

Happy retirement Davie Ferguson from us all at WoS IBC 🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Last night saw the climax of another 2 season long events as the Gents Triples and Ladies 4 bowl pairs finals took place.

Davie Thomson alongside brothers Alan & Stevie Robertson came out firing and got themselves into a 10-4 lead over Davie Blades, Davie McMonagle & Graeme MacDougall. They never let go of that lead and saw themselves home 21-13 to lift the crown 👏🏻

The Ladies Pairs was a dramatic affair as Scottish Semi Finalists and defending Champions Sarah Campbell & Laura McCabe faced Eleanor Cowan & Ann McCormack. It was the experienced pair of Eleanor & Ann who settled better and got themselves a 4 shot cushion around halfway. It seemed Laura was playing big bowls to stick around & with an end to go they only trailed by 1. Facing match lie against Laura played another mammoth bowl to force an EE. It was tense and equally dramatic as Eleanor and Ann pushed all out to win but affectionately now known as “ Last Bowl Laura” came up with a cracker to keep their hands on the title. Well done to all four players 👌👌

On Wednesday Graeme Gwynne’s side saw off Davie Barr to progress to the fours final against Graeme MacDougall’s team which hopefully will be the curtain closer next week.

This weekend sees our pocket rocket Abbie Harris and the SYIBA team travel to Antrim to face Ireland in this years test match. Good luck wee yin, bring home the gold 💪🏼💜

Last night saw the final of the Ladies Triples take place.

Sarah Campbell, Georgie O’Hagan & Laura McCabe came out victorious as they defeated Abbie Harris, Ann McCormack & Aimee Harris 👏🏻👏🏻

In the gents Triples playoffs two close encounters saw Davie McMonagle get the better of Gary Brooks & Davie Thomson saw off Richard Glassford. The final will take place on Thursday at 630pm

Tonight the Fours playoffs sees Davie Barr take on Graeme Gwynne at 630pm with the winner to face Graeme MacDougall’s side

Good luck all

Last night saw the conclusion of our Evening Triples & Fours leagues for the season. Record numbers took part this season and next year already looks set to beat that number with new members/teams already confirmed 🤗👏🏻

We now move forward to our National playoff qualifiers for the teams securing top slots in leagues.

Our triples will see SF’s take place on Tuesday 7th April 630-1030pm

G Brooks v D McMonagle
D Thomson v R Glassford

The winners will face off Thursday 9th April 630-1030pm

In the Fours we had 3 sides qualifying with G MacDougall side qualifying twice they’ll receive a bye while the SF for the right to face them will take place Wednesday 8th April 630-1030pm. Final tbc as teams have intimated some clashes of dates.

D Barr v G Gwynne

Good luck to those involved. Could I ask all teams involved this year to get their forms for next season completed ASAP. I’d like to confirm total numbers as leagues are going to be at capacity and option to introduce a new league may be on the table to allow all those interested to compete.

Cheers
Sam

It wasn’t to be for Sarah & Laura as they lost out to the experienced duo of Joyce Dickey & Julie Forrest.

The girls can probably look back at the slow start as they couldn’t get a foothold in the game. Around halfway with a 2-16 deficit the girls changed the length and fought themselves to within 6 at 12-18. It proved just too big a lead as Julie shut down some heads to see themselves over the line. Another great showing from our young team and we’re sure the accolades will come in time 💪🏼👏🏻

Best wishes to Joyce and Julie in the final 🏆
