Not all steps are the same.
Steps on a treadmill absolutely support your physical health. Movement is movement, and that always counts.
But when you’re able to, stepping outside can offer something a little different.
A walk through one of Glasgow’s parks, along the river, or through green space doesn’t just move your body, it can also support your mind. Fresh air, natural light, the sounds of nature, and a bit of space away from busy streets and screens can help calm the nervous system, lift your mood, and give your mind a chance to reset.
Time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, improve focus, and support overall wellbeing. Sometimes something as simple as a short walk outdoors can help you think more clearly, breathe a little deeper, and feel more grounded. Sometimes the best steps are the ones that lead somewhere new.
At Train Mind Body Soul, we believe training isn’t only about muscles, reps, or numbers. It’s also about how you feel, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Of course, we know it’s not always that simple. Work schedules, weather, travel, finances, accessibility, and safety can all influence how and where people move. If the treadmill is what works for you right now, that still matters. Those steps still count.
But if you have the opportunity, taking advantage of the incredible green spaces around Glasgow or travelling a little further afield to explore the beauty of Scotland can offer something really special. This country is full of landscapes, parks, hills, lochs, and coastlines that invite us to slow down, move, and reconnect with the world around us.
