Lets get after it!

Winning in sport is importantโ€ฆ particularly in fight sports!

But when youโ€™re still learning how to deal with the whole process & experience of fighting, I donโ€™t get too caught up on the result.

As long fights are well matched, ideally a 50/50 or maybe a 40/60 fight, so they arenโ€™t just getting a false confidence by running over someone or in too deep & higher chances of getting hurt, then I will take a good performance & a loss over an easy win with no growth any day.

Each bout has to have some challenge, a stimulus to make them realise they can dig deeper, they can push beyond their perceived limits.

Until the real peak of their fight career, all I care about is the performance, their ability to listen & adapt, but ultimatelyโ€ฆ their progression & growth.

Because a fight career is like a real fight, starting strong might workout well, but in the end, itโ€™s how strong you finish.

My first fighter made the walk in 1998โ€ฆ in all that time, Iโ€™ve never had any fighter go through a journey like

Tam has always been talented! But heโ€™s also always had a mixed record & had to bounce back after disappointing performances.

He has also always had his own demons to deal with but also Iโ€™ve never met a fighter who could be imploding in real life & then step onto that stage shut all that noise out &transform, quite like him.

In every sense, he is a mystery box of surprises.

But Tamโ€™s greatest strength is that through all of the ups & the downs, he has stayed focused on getting to the top of his mountain with complete faith...

Now, that stubborn fu**er has been loitering around this local summit for over a decade, as the top or at least one of the top fighters in the UK for as long as I can remember, but lost some big fights in recent years.

Well on Sat, Tam ignored the weather warnings & made it to the peak!

Like Tam, I have faith that he can bag some more summits before the journey is over.

But for now, winning was important & I hope he enjoys this view because that fu**er earned it the hard way!

Even his opponent ._stoica4 seemed genuinely pleased for him!

3 well earned wins on Sat!

Weโ€™ve coached many top ranked fighters in the UK since the Thai Fighter rankings were established by 12 years ago. Whilst being lucky enough to receive some gym of the year nominations. ๐Ÿ™

This has been a huge resource for promotors to help create matches with real consequences and given fighters a great incentive to climb the ladder and we owe Steve a huge thanks for all the hard work.

I was aiming to get a few more of the team in there this year, but still a solid finish, as the rankings close with:

UK #1๏ธโƒฃ Flyweight.

UK #1๏ธโƒฃ Featherweight.

UK #3๏ธโƒฃ Featherweight.

Going forward this year, i will announce any spaces and it will be on a first come first basis.

After that, we will temporarily close the intake of new members again and announce as and when spaces come up.

Again apologies for anyone that was on the waiting list or that I havenโ€™t got back to. The waiting list was the fairest way to manage new members after lockdowns, but just became unsustainable.

This post is long overdueโ€ฆ my intention was to post this in Sept/Oct, but it was just a crazy end to the year and the new year seemed like a better time to change it.

The good news is, we have more spaces to accommodate new members and we are freezing prices for this intake, so memberships will still average at only ยฃ7 a class.

So for Muay Thai, we have set days and 2 time slots for each:

1 - Mon, Wed, Fri at 6:10pm.

2 - Mon, Wed, Fri at 7pm.

3 - Tues, Thurs, Fri at 6:10pm.

4 - Tues, Thurs, Fri at 7pm.

If youโ€™ve tried training with a PT and realise that one session a week just isnโ€™t cutting it or you are bored going to the gym on your own and need some extra accountability and coaching to meet your goals, small group training is ideal.

These sessions are not striking based like the Muay Thai sessions and are fitness focused.

The BoxFitCamp runs Mon to Fri, so gives you a session every week day and we recommend aiming for at least 3-4 sessions a week.

The 2nd rule about BoxFit: โ€œWe still donโ€™t talk about BoxFitโ€ฆ yet!โ€

Although we were running on: 1 out, 1 in basis for over 2 years. Iโ€™ve a confession, weโ€™ve actually had spaces open up over the last few months.

I know, I should have went back to that massive list and apologised for the weight and offered to everyone that had been in contactโ€ฆ sorry folks.

Iโ€™ll be honest, life has been a bit of a rollercoaster the last 2 years.

But this is no pity party, in a quite sadistic way, I often enjoy the stress.

It can be fun spinning plates, but as some started to fall and before I could try and get them going again, I just had to narrow my focus on what I had in front of me.

We all have challenges and although they might seem insignificant compared to what others are dealing with, that doesnโ€™t change their significance to each of us, our problems are still our problems.

Iโ€™m actually really good at carrying a heavy load, for me and for others. But every once in a while you just have to say sorry, time for me to rest and focus on me before going again.

We will always have challenges ahead, there wonโ€™t ever be a time when it is just a clear path in front of you.

But for the short term, life has became a bit lighter and Iโ€™ve been trying to work on those broken parts of the business.

I tweaked some things last year, some worked, some didnโ€™t but thatโ€™s how things evolve and time to tweak again.

I also knew I had Burning Man coming up and that experience often gives me a new perspective or pivot, so it was important for me to unplug and have some good time to think.

So watch this space, the posts are already written, but might be tweaked, so Iโ€™ll update you when Iโ€™m out of the desert.

The first rule about BoxFit: โ€œWe donโ€™t talk about BoxFit!โ€

My business mentors might be smashing their screens right now.

But since lockdowns, the demand for our gym was just more than I and our cosy gym could handle.

I just couldnโ€™t accommodate everyone and felt the fairest thing to do was to start a waiting list.

However, the last year or so the waiting list got so long that people were understandably getting annoyed and I developed some serious inbox anxiety.

At the same time the Fitness side of the business started to drop because if I ever put up any content to push that, I would just get even more Muay Thai enquiries.

So although Iโ€™m not one for posting on socials anyway, I pretty much went dark.

Combine that unmanageable waiting list with the fact that when life gets stressful, the first think my dyslexic ass avoids is enquiries, as it drains me.

So this post is simply a group apology. I am human and at points I will drop the ball, in fact, the last few months I actually chucked that ball over my shoulder.

But that doesnโ€™t make it ok and I am very sorry if you were left waiting on a spot or a reply. Itโ€™s not good enough!

Iโ€™m away for the next 3 weeks but have some good news and announcements coming over the coming month.

First of all huge thanks to my team and everyone who supported the event last week!

Weโ€™ve been making a lot of changes in the background over recent events, which has made things a little more stressful in the short term, but I knew it would make life so much easier and better for the event in the long run.

Weโ€™ve still a few things to do, but last weekend was the first time I really felt a big difference. That event didnโ€™t take anywhere near as much out of me as it usually does, even with being away in Italy for a wedding the week before.

We had 3 lads on the show and I was really happy with all 3.

First up, was young Matthew making his debut. Matthew originally trained with one of our team Michael Diamond, he is a talented young lad and although his opponent was coming in with 2 stoppages, I was confident he would do himself proud. He didnโ€™t get the decision and just tired in the second half, but it was a close fight and the difference was experience, this kid has a promising future and already booked in to fight on 12th Oct.

Then we had Dr Headkick, Ross Trainer. Ross doesnโ€™t do fat camps in between fights, he is in the gym all year and lives the lifestyle of a Martial Artist and among the most dedicated fighters Iโ€™ve ever worked with. On Saturday he was up against a very talented and experienced young fighter from Spain, who went hard on the paint from the opening bell and really unloaded on Ross. But anyone that remembers Ross from his D-Unit days, know that he was always tough and comfortable in the fire, that was his world for the first half of his fight career. The crowd looked concerned, but Ross has never been dropped and I knew it would have to be something special to really stop Ross. He absorbed the onslaught and then just went to work and again showed his continuous growth. We still have a few little things to develop, but its almost time for us to really test Ross with some of the worldโ€™s best, as he is so well rounded and has a true fighters heart!

POS35 recapโ€ฆ

First up was Sean Hannigan and I have to hold my hands up, his fight prep was a disaster, I was running in all directions whilst trying to get him ready, he was rushed and harassed and tbh I wasnโ€™t even giving him great advice in the fight. It was close and not much in it, but he is capable of way better and he deserved way better from me, sorry buddy!

By the second half I had managed to settle everything down and get ready for the 2 main bouts.

AND NEW WBC FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION... our girl, Jenna Ross!

I genuinely donโ€™t really get excited at belts, some people seem to fight for belts every fightโ€ฆ but I feel like Jenna is truly World Class and deserved this opportunity and the WBC were great to deal with.

Ilenia was a very credible and experienced opponent, over 50 fights against high level opponents. But with all due respect, it was a complete shut out. Jenna pressed forward the entire fight, unphased by anything coming at her and should have finished the fight or at least got a few more counts. She still has much more to show and Iโ€™m excited to see whatโ€™s next!

To cap it off Ross Trainer managed to take the WBC National belt from Stephan Girdwood. Stephan promised to show a new level to his game and I thought he was fighting well and it was a competitive fight. I heard a spectator say they felt it was a quick stoppage, but the way the shot landed and the reaction... I really think Ross would have done a lot of damage in the followup.

People get so caught up with their ego, but this is not the UFC and they are not getting big money, these fighters are already putting their health on the line for personal glory and our entertainment, and the referee made the right call, which will protect his longevity as a fighter. Heโ€™s still got a big future ahead of him, no need for him to go out on his shield and Iโ€™m sure that will be a fight that happens again in future.

Next up POS36, 3rd Aug!

First of all congrats to Kevin Harper at Majestic gym!

Itโ€™s honour for our team to once again receive an honourable mention amongst some of the top gyms in the UK!

I still feel itโ€™s been a building year for the team since lockdowns, even though we still have 4 of the POS Fight Team amongst the top ranked fighters in the UK, there will be plenty more to come!
