Scottish Backhold Wrestling is one of the traditional wrestling styles of the UK - one of the major “Celtic” styles but differing from the Cornish/ Breton styles, which involve different holds and throws. Scottish-Backhold is almost identical to the Cumbrian-Westmoreland style of Northern England (it is also practiced in Northumberland), involving largely the same techniques. It involves the two w

The SWB are sad to learn of the passing of Margaret Singh. Margaret was a positive and happy person who had alot of time for the sport of Backhold Wrestling. She was a dedicated member of the wrestling committee for years and played an important role in supporting the sport and helping it grow. Margaret also brought all three of her children along to try wrestling many years ago to which they take part, compete and enjoy. Margaret’s contributions and spirit will continue to be remembered and appreciated by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Our thoughts are with Margaret’s Family, her children and friends 🤍

A fantastic day of wrestling took place in Brittany at the Internationaux de Back-Hold - Championnat de Bretagne Open 2025. The wrestlers from Scotland performed exceptionally well and should all be incredibly proud of themselves- the results are as follows:
