MON THE SALTIRE

1st of February signals the start of Football v Homophobia month of action! 📣

The message is important year round, but particularly in February when we see inclusive teams, clubs, leagues and sporting bodies emphasise their commitment to removing homophobia and transphobia from the beautiful game ⚽

On Wednesday evening at training Saltire Thistle members posed for a photo with the F v H banner, with several members sharing their thoughts on why the campaign is so important, what needs to change to ensure true inclusivity and access to football for everyone is achieved, and why they chose Saltire Thistle 💜

Last Saturday we played an inter-team Saltire v Thistle match which was excellent preparation for our competitive games which start in just a few weeks.

The match was our first time wearing our fresh new away kits 💛

Prior to the match we held an EGM to vote in our new manager, inform members of updates from the club and hear from our partners .

Massive thank you to Calum and Ese from Waverley Care who came along to the EGM to speak with players about our continuing partnership, the vital work of Waverley Care and how we as a club can continue to support Waverley Care via fundraising activities 💜🧡.

What an exhilarating few weeks on the pitch Saltire Thistle FC have enjoyed ⚽

In our final league game of the season we secured our Division 1 safety with a crucial 3-0 win over thanks to a double from Jones (scroll to see the first goal to send us on our way!) and a nerve settling second goal from Holtz 🚀.

After a string of high scoring home draws in the GFSN we certainly left our best performance until last. Many thanks to Yorkshire Terriers for travelling up in their numbers and enjoying a great social afterwards 🤝

Last weekend we were then delighted to be able to travel to Manchester to face in a friendly match. Whilst the result didn't go our way, Village Manchester were exquisite hosts in what was a fantastic preview to our Division 1 matches next season... Well done on the promotion Village Manchester ⬆️🐝

For our final few matches we now turn our attention to the EG League to finish off the season, with matches against Hot Scots, Scottish Writers and Meadspot 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We may be a few weeks behind in posting this, but what a blast our 15th anniversary tournament was! 1️⃣5️⃣🥳⚽

On the field we had a fantastic morning and afternoon celebrating 15th years of Saltire Thistle Football Club with a 5 a side tournament between 16 fantastic teams.

We had two league tables seeing each team play 7 well spirited and inclusive minded games, before the top two from each group progressed to semi finals and the grand final.

Massive congratulations to tournament winners Bentekers, an excellent side made up of previous Saltire Thistle players 🔥

Tournament runners up were our regular friendly opponents - well done on a great tournament.

Shout-out to our other semi finalists and 👏🏼♥️🩷

Special mention to Queen's Park Strangers who picked up our Fair Play Award as selected by other team captains for their excellent display of playing football in a team minded and inclusive spirit 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Thanks to all teams who came along and spent the day with us, we are privileged you celebrated our birthday with us .pride.football

Off the field we capped off our anniversary celebrations with a night of entertainment and karaoke at our social sponsor hosted by the fabulous 🎤💜

Overall it was a memorable day spent with teammates, friends, and football family 🫶🏼

Saltire Thistle FC Statement regarding yesterday's verdict from the supreme court.

Saltire Thistle will continue to support and recognise trans women and the wider trans and non-binary community, even if our laws are currently failing you.

Our LGBTQ+ community has shown an outpouring of support which we are proud to be part of.

Well, what a weekend away in Trowbridge / Bristol for Saltire Thistle... a win on our travels! ➕3️⃣

An excellent team performance saw us emerge 0-2 victors on our trip south in what was a well earned and needed league win. This will certainly spur us on as we head into our last 3 GFSN league games of the season. 📈

Special mention to Andy MacGregor who got the two crucial goals, but this really was an all-round team triumph 🔥

Many thanks to for being fantastic opponents and giving us a special GFSN away trip, great to see the team sporting tees. All the best with the rest of the season and we hope to see you at the GFSN summer tournament 💜

On to our next trip to play in a few weeks again in the GFSN ⚽

Wednesday the 19th of February was the International Day Against LGBTQIA+phobia in Sport - Saltire, along with many other clubs, teams and organisations joined together in showing our support by wearing Black & Pink at our training session 🩷🖤 We certainly made a dark, rainy night in Glasgow that little bit brighter!

We want to thank & in their continued campaign to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ phobia in sport and highlight the importance of their work 🖤🩷

As part of month of action, we played a dedicated friendly game against SFA staff which saw our opponents run out 5-3 winners.

Thank you to all who took part in the game and coming together to take a stance against discrimination in football.

We work year round to tackle discrimination in football and create a welcoming and inclusive space for our members. This snapshot from a few of our 70+ members, captures the impact the club has had with all involved with Saltire, both on and off the pitch.
