We had our last Thursday class in the community halls last week, having been there since the early 90s. Here is a video of some of the many students who have attended over the years. Looking forward now to the new Saturday morning class in Shakespeare St starting 12th August.

Leo now learning straight sword, and enjoying the new challenge. He reports doing the sword as making him think about his hand form movement, and in finding connections and new questions to explore. Keep up the good work Leo!

A call for help,please ………..

If you could take 2 minutes to visit our website, I would be very grateful. Changed my Google analytics , and need some visits to “re-boot” the crawl bots (apparently😂).
A quick visit and tap through some of the menu links would be great.
Thank you

Sad news of Dan Docherty’s passing today, and sharing a few words from Ian Cameron

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Dan. This force of nature will be sorely missed. Dan’s contribution to Tai Chi Chuan should never be underestimated. Although, at times, many disagreed with him, no one can deny his importance to the art.
Dan and I met some fifty years ago and we had many shared experiences in Hong Kong, China and teaching along with Sifu Cheng Tin Hung and Tong Chi Kin in the UK. We also, on occasion, enjoyed a few whisky’s together, impressing Sifu with our capacity to ‘shift a few.’ Over the past few years we kept in regular contact, and although in the past we went our own ways, it was special to complete the circle.
Condolences to all of Dan’s students from all at Five Winds Tai Chi.
Deepest condolences to Ellen and Ronin.
He will always be my Tai Chi brother.

Just an update on class progress since opening up. Classes are well ventilated and have floor markings to help distancing. Until now we have been practicing forms only, but as the restrictions lift, we are introducing limited partner work, sticking with one partner all evening as per the BCCMA guidelines.
Beginners for the time being will concentrate on forms only, but will be introduced to partner work once settled.
Classes are near capacity ( numbers are limited to allow space at present), so if you are interested in coming along, please let me know.

Hi All,
Classes have now been running for 3 weeks for existing students, albeit limited in what we can do to maintain covid restrictions. We are mainly concentrating on forms work, which after the long break is no bad thing !
I wanted to update for BEGINNERS - I do not want to start newcomers until it is clear that restrictions are going to be fully lifted. Currently this looks like it has been pushed back another couple of weeks, and so the earliest date for beginners is likely to be 27th July, subject to government rules.
I apologise for the moving dates, but it is beyond my control. Keep an eye on the web site news-page for updates over the next couple of weeks.

07/06/2021

Regular members welcome back this week, to practice form, and beginners asked to watch out for start dates soon. Restrictions allow a distanced approach for now, but we should hopefully be able to run full classes by the end of the month. (Sorry, should read 8th & 10th)

Wu Cheng Tai Chi Chuan 18/05/2021

The forms of Ian Cameron are now available as a new download, intended as a learning tool (under guidance preferably) and as a reference for the more experienced. The download contains all the forms previously available as a DVD. Thanks to Malcolm for organising.

Ho Chi Minh Demonstrating Tai Chi In Vietnam 11/04/2021

Quite interesting video. For class members who remember Mike, he taught English in Ho Chi Minh city for 2 years, and ironically couldn’t find a tc class. But here it is.

Ho Chi Minh Demonstrating Tai Chi In Vietnam Ho Chi Minh, the communist leader of North Vietnam demonstrates Tai Chi. The film footage is believed to be from around the mid to late 1940's.

Hi All,

I hope you are well, and that you have managed to keep your practice going over the last months.
The most recent government advice points toward classes being able to fully open indoors in June, and hopefully that will be the case. I have provisionally indicated to the halls that we will be back then, and I will confirm dates nearer the time.
Initially classes will be for existing students, with beginners planned from July onward.
So here's hoping all comes good, and look forward to seeing you soon.
