Glasgow Gladiators 2-9 Glasgow Corinthians

12.10.25
Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship Division 3

The Corries answered recent doubts about their sticking power with an irresistible performance against Glasgow Gladiators. The first half was a whirlwind as the Firhill men raced ahead within just a few minutes when Kammy Smith leapt like a salmon to net his first Corries goal with a fine header. The goals kept flowing from there as Gladiators struggled to deal with a rampant midfield and an energetic forward line. Pick of the bunch was a belter from distance from Jake Campbell, but there were plenty other contenders including Kevin Beaton (on his first Corries start) rounding the keeper and slotting away. At half time a shellshocked Gladiators found themselves 7-0 down with the game surely away from them.

Corinthians knew they couldn’t get too complacent in the second half, however - it was clear Gladiators had a potent attacking threat which had been blunted by an excellent Corries defensive performance. Their No 7 in particular caused problems throughout and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet earlier. His late consolation was a scant reward for a performance full of menace. The second half was much closer than the first, with the teams cancelling each other out amid a raft of changes for the away side. There was still time for some highlights for the fans, though: first came Connor Edwards’ fine headed finish (proving his 347 misses last week were just a fluke); then came a brilliant first time finish from Chris “I’m a full back, honest” Rush; lastly, there was a scoop-pass masterclass from underrated player-manager Roddy Cairns which sent the terraces wild.

Overall there was lots to be happy about in what was the best performance of a promising season. Everyone contributed to the win and it carries on the momentum from last week.

Squad: F.Steathearn; A.Sargent, C.Paisley, D.Leslie, C.Edwards; G.Campbell, K.Beaton, J.Campbell; H.Agyeman, R.McArthur (capt.), K.Smith

What you missed - match report catchups!

We’ve been quiet on here lately - a result of the admin’s day job getting too busy, rather than a reflection of our downturn in form (we promise). But we know our fans will want to know what’s been going on. So here’s a quick summary of the matches you’ve missed.

14.09.25: Vale 3-1 Corries
Deservedly beaten by our old rivals Vale, who outplayed us on a muddy grass pitch. Harry with the goal, back post header.

21.09.25: Paisley Saints 3-1 Corries
Tight game, level at the break then Saints stretched away. Jamie Robertson with the goal (which I’m reliably informed was a screamer)

28.09.25: West End Utd 6-1 Corries
Gubbed by a bunch of lads young enough to be our bairns, conceded some complete shanner goals and generally felt the hand of Father Time on our ageing shoulders. Bad day at the office, Lewis McCall with the consolation.

05.10.25: Corries 4-0 Glasgow On The Ball
Finally back to winning ways as we totally owned Toryglen’s massive indoor pitch. Midfield masterclass saw Billy and Alex grab goals, with Lewis M carrying in his good form with a double. Solid defensive display led to a rare clean sheet too.

That’s you lot up to date, happy now? We’ve even pasted the league table below as it stood going into this Sundays match against Glasgow Gladiators (for which a full match report should be up tonight…)

Corries joint top of Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship Division 3!

After a lightning start to the season that has seen 3 wins from 3, Glasgow Corinthians find ourselves among a clutch of teams sitting at the top of the table with 9 points. There’s still a loooooong way to go (and notably we have yet to play any of the other ‘Big 5’ 😉) but it’s a brilliant start to things for our new look team and a nice change from our traditional slow starts.

We face a massive test this Sunday, as we take on the only team currently sitting above us in the table (on goal difference) - Vale FC. 2pm ko at Mountblow pitches on Clydebank, why not pop along and see if the Corries can overcome our biggest test of the season so far?

Glasgow Corinthians 5-3 Saltire Thistle
07.09.25, Firhill
Friendly match

With no GDSFC league match this week, Corinthians played a friendly against an old foe from our GCCL days, Saltire Thistle. The match was an opportunity to try out new players and new combinations, but the Corries management were also keen to keep the recent momentum going with a win.

Debutant Lewis McCall kept up the recent tradition of new boys scoring early on their debuts when he slotted away sharply after a bright opening to the game. Unfortunately the celebrations seemed to shatter poor Lewis, who needed a breather soon afterwards! The rest of the first half saw Corries control possession but struggle to convert their chances, while Saltire had some very good chances of their own and were a clear danger on the break.

A full set of subs at the break meant that it was a new-look Corries lineup which took to the field in the second half with one instruction - put this game away. They wasted no time doing just that, with Scott McMillan, Alex Barron and Charles Danquah (with a lovely wee 'round the keeper' effort) put the Firhill men 4-0 up and looking like they were cruising. Saltire weren't in the mood to lie down and accept their fate, though, and soon got themselves back into contention with some quickfire goals. Just as the home fans were feeling nervous, though, the dangerous Scott McMillan grabbed a second to take his own tally to 4 in 2 games and finally put the game to bed.

An enjoyable game, and a very worthwhile exercise which allowed the management to give game time so some new players. The continued goalscoring prowess of the new-look Corries is something to behold, although it's clear the defence will have to tighten up if the team is carry on its good form.

Special mention to captain Ross Mcarthur, who stepped into an unfamiliar centre back role today and looked like he'd played there all his life. It was like watching a young Alan Archibald out there.

Was also great to have injured defender Tony Wilson on the sidelines in the assistant manager role, inspiring the boys with his tactical pronouncements.

Squad: F.Strathearn; C.Rush, R.Cairns, R.McArthur, C.Edwards; A.Barron, D.Ndirangu, B.Robertson; J.Ngatia, A.Scott, L.McCall

Subs: M.Lavelle, C.Danquah, S.McMillan, R.Stevenson

Goals: S.McMillan (x2), L.McCall, A.Barron, C.Danquah

Clyde Thistle 0-9 Glasgow Corinthians
24.08.25, Scotstoun
Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship Div 3

It was another strong result for Glasgow Corinthians today as they made it 3 wins from 3 in the GDSFC Division 3. Th goals were evenly spread around the team, with no less than three players (Ross McArthur, Billy Robertson and debutant Scott McMillan) grabbing braces, and all 3 failing spectacularly to convert them to hattricks!

There were also goals from Alex Barron, Sam Birch and Harry Agyeman (an absolute belter of a finish from range, it must be said). All in all, the Corries controlled the game and were worthy winners, although Clyde must be given some credit for playing some tidy football, and continuing to play out from the back even when a man down.

The travelling fans were particularly pleased to see Sam Birch net a rare goal, as today marked his last Corries game before he embarks on a new adventure in London. Sam has been a class act for the Corries both on and off the pitch the last couple of years, as personified by him staying on for the start of this season to help provide some early season stability as we bedded in our new players. We wish Sam the best, and hope to welcome him back someday if he begins to miss Hibs Saturdays and Corries Sundays too much!

Squad:

G.Morrison; A.Sargent, G.Campbell, C.McDougall, C.Edwards; S.Birch, B.Robertson, A.Barron; S.McMillan, R.McArthur, H.Agyeman

Subs: C.Rush, B.McKenna, R.Cairns

Goals: R.McArthur x 2, S.McMillan x2, B.Robertson x2, H.Agyeman, S.Birch, A.Barron

⚓️ ⚫️⚪️🔴Glasgow Corinthians 7-5 Garrison Athletic 🔴⚪️⚫️⚓️

17.08.25, Firhill

Glasgow Corinthians continued their fine start to the season with a thrilling 7-5 victory against Garrison Athletic. The game had absolutely everything - 12 goals, two penalties, one red card and a couple of worldies!

Corries were down to the bare bones after some late call offs, and carried on the pattern of this season by blooding a number of new faces - many of whom played a huge part in this win. It was a bit of a false start for the Firhill men, who found themselves 3-0 down within 30 minutes after some sloppy goals. However, the lads felt the score didn’t reflect the pattern of the game and set out to claw themselves back into contention.

Jake Campbell, a standout in midfield for the second week in a row, got the ball rolling with a spectacular effort from near the halfway line which caught the keeper napping. Debutant Jamie Robertson was a menace on the right wing, finding space constantly and helping himself to an impressive hat trick. James Ngatia continued his hot streak in front of goal with a lovely cushioned header from a Robertson cross, and Goggie Campbell stayed cool enough to slot away two penalties (one of which led to a Garrison red card).

Plenty to improve on - conceding 5 goals in a match won’t often end with 3 points! - but the new-look Corries are building something very fun at Firhill. With some more established lads due to come in to the team to supplement the new faces, it is to be hoped that this team can score plenty goals and banish the woes of last season.

Squad: G.Morrison; L.Atha, R.Cairns (c), A.Sargent, C.Edwards; G.Campbell, C.Conner, J.Campbell; J.Robertson, J.Ngatia, D.Ndirangu

Sub: C.Rush

Corries kick off 25/26 season with a win!

Glasgow on the Ball Utd 1-4 Glasgow Corinthians
10.08.25, Toryglen

It was a perfect start to the season for Glasgow Corinthians as we secured a 4-1 away victory against GOTB Utd, announcing our return to the Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship after a decade away with a win.

The Corries are much changed from last season, with some of the old guard finally calling it a day after many years and a few folk having departed Glasgow. However, manager Cairns has been busy over the summer scouring the city for replacements, and the new-look side certainly gave the Firhill faithful plenty to be optimistic about.

GOTB are familiar opponents, having competed alongside us in the GCCL for many years and with the two teams having faced off in a friendly just last week. GOTB won that one 7-3, an inexperienced and unfamiliar Corries side eventually crumbling after a strong start. However, this week was different, with some seasoned warhorses returning to the lineup and making the Firhill men a sturdier opposition.

The new signings grabbed the headlines, with winger James Ngatia scoring two breakaway goals as GOTB struggled to cope with his pace. Meanwhile, Jake Campbell had an impressive second debut in midfield (having played a few games for Corries in the distant past), controlling the game and grabbing two fine goals of his own.

There were some setbacks, of course: the team had to play with 10 men for the first 15 minutes due to a mixture of player lateness and SAFA teamline rules; GOTB scored one of the best free kicks you'll ever see at this level; whilst centre back Billy Robertson picked up an injury early on to leave poor Goggie Campbell filling in at the back for the rest of the game while his midfield teammates had fun.

But overall it was an impressive performance which gave plenty of hope for a successful (and ideally fun!) season as the club enters its 16th year.

We're back home to Firhill Complex next Sunday (17th August) as we take on Garrison Athletic.

Thanks as ever to the Bon Accord who have renewed their sponsorship with us for the 2025/26 season and bought us a beautiful new away kit. We're delighted to continue our relationship with the Bon - a sponsorship which is as old as the club itself!

Corinthians lineup:
F.Strathearn; L.Atha, B.Robertson, R.Cairns, C.Edwards; G.Campbell, S.Birch, J.Campbell; J.Ngatia, R.Macarthur (capt.), A.Barron
Subs: C.Rush, A.Scott, D.Ndirangu

Some big changes afoot for the Corries - this amalgamation will see us return to the Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship - a league we played in for many years (both as the Corries and as our predecessor team) up until 2014.

It will also see us becoming an SFA-affiliated club.

We’ve loved our time in the GCCL, a league that was set up to embody the very same Corinthian spirit of fair play and cooperation that we have always tried to stand for. It was in many ways the finest amateur league in Glasgow.

But we’re also excited for an exciting new chapter in our club’s 15 year history, which gives us a platform to grow and improve within larger competitive structures.

We are looking for new players to come on that journey with us. If you fancy a regular game of 11s with a sound bunch of lads, give us a message and let’s get you along!

Mon the Corries, Mon the GDSFC!

Big news alert!

After 10 wonderful years as an independent charity football league, the Glasgow Community & Co-operative League is delighted to announce that we have agreed to amalgamate with the Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship for the 2025/26 season onwards.

This was not an easy decision - we are incredibly proud of the achievements of the GCCL, in not only offering a safe and tolerant space for football, but also in raising money for and awareness of good causes. However, with changing footballing habits, it has become harder year on year to consistently deliver the sort of competition we want and to ensure that new teams entering the league commit to our founding principles and ethos.

For that reason, it was decided that the best course of action was amalgamation with the GDSFC, a well-established and incredibly successful Sunday league which is fully affiliated to the SFA and SAFA. We believe that being part of this larger organisation will best serve the interests of our clubs going forward, and look forward to working with our friends at the GDSFC who have had remarkable growth themselves over the last decade.

For some teams, it will even be a return to familiar surroundings, with some GCCL teams having been GDSFC members for many years in the past.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the GCCL's successes over the last decade, from sponsors to fans, volunteers of course, all the wonderful players who made it all possible. We hope that the league's founding ethos of community, co-operation, openness and non-violence can follow our teams into the new setup.

We had a good run of it...now it's time to get excited for the next chapter!

Congratulations to Corries Stalwart Tony Greer, who finished as top scorer in the Fair Play Foundation League Cup! Tony managed to bag 8 goals in our run to the semi-finals; no mean feat from the experienced Bute man.

A decent start to the season sees the Corries sitting in 6th position in the Glasgow Community & Co-Operative League - not bad at all, but plenty of room for improvement.

Our Ross McArthur is doing well in the overall goal scoring charts, with Tony Greer also hitting plenty and sitting top of the League Cup scoring charts.

Speaking of the League Cup, we have made it as far as the semi finals. We take on Lomond Thistle F.C this Sunday (12th November) with a place in the final at stake. Lomond will be a tough test - they were GCCL champions last year and currently sit top of the league - but we are looking forward to the challenge. 2.30pm ko at Firhill Complex if you’d like to come cheer on your favourite neighbourhood Sunday league team!

It’s the final match day of the GCCL Fair Play Foundation League Cup group stages tomorrow, with Corinthians facing off against Vale FC in an 11am ko at Clydebank Community Sport Hub.

With both teams having already qualified for the next round after winning both their games so far, there is nothing more to play for tomorrow than bragging rights and the honour of being group winners. Which makes it the perfect opportunity for the Corries’ new signings to show what they can do ahead of the league campaign kicking off.

Our games against Vale are always keenly contested, with the Dunbartonshire-based side having had the better of recent encounters. The Corries will be hoping to change that with a strong performance tomorrow.

Tomorrow we face Kelvingrovers in the second match day of the Fair Play Foundation League Cup. Looking to build some momentum on the back of last week’s impressive opening day victory.
