Customer popped in yesterday with his motorhome complaining about his DC2DC victron unit not working.
Was installed without ignition live trigger and not set up correctly.
Fitted a fused ignition live and set up to enable proper function. Unit still didn’t run consistently, with a measured low voltage input from van battery. Voltage was fine at van battery so checked the cabling and fuse. Inline switchable fuses from Amazon had been fitted by someone and were causing the issue.
Fitted new midi fuse holders and fuses and all good, with consistent charging when engine running.
Never buy cheap unbranded components for your electrical system.

Split charging not working. Found the fault to be a bad earth connection to Leisure batteries. This is why you don’t screw through van floor to connect to chassis earth. It eventually corrodes.
Due to run of earth cable I ran a new one from internal bodywork after cleaning paint to ensure a good connection.

Final positioning to enable future battery replacement. Current battery is Agm due to both cost and minimal power demand, but with the victron Dc2Dc and mains charger the option to upgrade in the future to lithium is possible by reconfiguring these units.

Wee mock up for installing electrics under double passenger seat in transit custom. Making use of all available space is paramount in these vans.

Pre charging new Lithium for an upgrade to customers van. This will provide a significant upgrade in battery capacity from 100 ah lead acid to 230ah lithium. Over 4 times increase in usable capacity. Also fitting 25amp mains charger to help when parked up for prolonged periods.

Winters here, so it’s heater time.
Couple of Webasto Airtop 2000st installs, one of which includes a leisure battery and DC2DC to provide power and charging when on the move. Have worked with Webasto for about 15 years now and live the fact that I can rely on the quality of product I’m installing and tech support if unusual install requirements.

Complete overhaul for this customer.
Removal of nasty Chinese heater and install of Webasto Airtop with Multicontroller. Van leisure electrics were in a very bad condition and had to be completely removed and reworked.
Customer supplied a Clayton LPS 3000 and supercharger. To make this fit I had to rework the existing kitchen unit, by shortening the length. This allowed enough space behind drivers seat and with the construction of a small plinth to duct the warm air from the heater worked out very well. Clayton allows both 12v and 240v appliances to be used off grid with display for battery percentage remaining. This unit has a 160 ah lithium built in with a useable 130 ah.
