Sunday, September 14th, we're kicking off the first concert of Series 4 of Music At The Green at Partickhill Bowling & Community Club.

We're delighted that the fabulous Sophie Rocks is bringing Music At The Green back to Partickhill - she'll be performing a set from her recently released EP and introducing some incredible fellow Scottish musicians—Isla Ratcliff, Iona Reid, and Juliette Lemoine. Isla, Iona, and Juliette will be performing their brand-new "Scottish Four Seasons," a celebration of 300 years of Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons with a Scottish twist!

This concert series is vital in providing opportunities for musicians living and working in Scotland, and your support allows us to celebrate the amazing musical talent right here on our doorstep in a sustainable way. Please lend your support which allows events like this to continue and flourish.

If you have any questions or would like to book your tickets directly, Sophie is just an email away at [email protected]

As Spring beckons and spirits lift please find the March offering from Poet in Residence Mike Hough. Mike calls this one "left field". I call it fantastic!

A psychiatrist, a poet and a plumber,

A psychiatrist, a poet and a plumber, went walking through the forest one day, when they came across a squirrel.

The psychiatrist asked the squirrel ,

"where are you going today squirrel?" "

I am going to find meaning," replied the squirrel.

"Meaning?"inquired the psychiatrist.

"Yes, meaning," said the squirrel.

Then the poet questioned,

"where are you going today squirrel?"

"I am going to find the word," answered the squirrel.

"The word?" queried the poet.

"Yes, the word," responded the squirrel.

Later, the plumber wanted to know,

"where are you going today squirrel?"

"I'm going to find water. Can you help me?"

"Yes," declared the plumber.

January is behind us thankfully and our Poet in Residence Mike Hough has shared with us his beautiful and uplifting Poem for February which we hope you enjoy.

A Poet in Residence Production; The February Poem
Love is like a daffodil

I sort of know you love me
You said that it was true
You sent it in at text that read
I luv u

I sort of feel you love me
when you always turn up late
leave the toilet seat akimbo
and call me your fat mate

I sort of think you love me
when you never hold my hand
when you never cross the road for me
when you’re off to join the band

I sort of sense you love me
when Saturday comes round
there’s football on the tele
and the zapper can’t be found

I sort of suppose you love me
when you smile and look my way
as though I’ve lost the plot again
and there’s nothing you can say

to change me or console me
when my tears begin to flow
I just sort of know you love me
I guess that’s all I need to know.

This Saturday sees Andy playing live at the Club.
Andy's stellar career has seen him write with Peter Gabriel, Allison Russell, Christine Anu and Liam Ó Maonlaí. He has been produced by John Leckie and Donal Lunny, and recorded with Billy Bragg and Sinéad O’Connor. Famous friends, but the essence of what Andy does is in concert with his acoustic guitar, a bunch of pedals, a Fender amp, and a fabulous word count. From ‘Religious Persuasion’ to ‘Another Sunny Day’. Good luck, I hope you make it.

Doors / bar open 7:30pm

Tickets can be purchased on the night with a member's discount, only £12

A POETRY OPPORTUNITY

Following the successful booklet of Poems from Hyndland Secondary School led by our Poet in residence Mike Hough and gratefully assisted with part finance from Partick and Thornwood's Idea's Fund, Mike now has a second project lined up.

For this, he hopes to produce a further booklet of poems this time from adults and young people from the international community living in Glasgow.

The details:

Do you ( or do you know somebody who )

Live (s) in Glasgow,
Was not born in the UK,
Is interested in writing, in poetic form, about your experience of coming to Glasgow and living here
And

Would like to have that poem published?

If so, contact Mike Hough at

[email protected]

for more information or to register an interest.

But hurry, do it today, poems must be submitted by the end of January 2024.

Mike Hough
