U13 Scottish Cup vs Prestwick โ€“ Wednesday 27 May

Hillhead travelled to Prestwick for their first-round Scottish Cup fixture and produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a place in the next round.

After losing the toss and put into field, Hillhead were relentless from the outset. Their fielding was energetic, their intensity never dropped, and their ex*****on was precise throughout the innings.

Kairav set the tone with the ball, removing both openers in his opening spell and finishing with excellent figures of 2 for 4. Arnav then tore through the middle order, claiming 4 for 6 as Prestwick struggled to build any momentum. Hillheadโ€™s bowlers maintained the pressure throughout, eventually bowling Prestwick out for just 59.

In reply, openers Kairav and Virain got Hillhead off to the perfect start, driving and cutting the Prestwick fast bowlers to all parts of the ground. The opening pair which have excelled this season thus far put together an impressive opening partnership of 35 before both retiring.

Henry then continued the attacking approach, striking five boundaries in a match-winning innings that sealed a comfortable victory and ensured Hillheadโ€™s progression to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

A clinical performance from start to finish. Well done, boys! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ

This weekend's ball sponsor is our good friend Atif Ahmed. Atif had around 25 years of cricket at HCC beginning as a schoolboy in 1992. A talented all rounder - aggressive batsman and skilful bowler Atif (or "Elvis") was also a past First Eleven captain. Atif's favourite Hillhead players are former pro Grant Parmenter and David Shanks. His most memorable season was 1994 when he was part of the First Eleven squad that won the Glasgow District League Division 1 under the captaincy of Terry Cordner. Our thanks to Atif for his support!

*Toe-Crushers, Rocket Throws and Dancing Feet: Hillheadโ€™s Perfect Start*

Hillhead kicked off their 2026 Menโ€™s Challenge Cup campaign in style with a commanding 95-run victory over Helensburgh at Hughenden โ€” but the scorecard only tells half the story.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Hillhead had to dig in early on a pitch offering some seriously awkward bounce. Enter captain Shashwat Mazumder, who responded in the best possible way after suffering a first-ball duck in his previous outing. This time, there was no hanging around in the pavilion.

Mazumderโ€™s superb 69 anchored the innings, but it was the manner of the knock that stood out just as much as the runs. With the pitch spitting unpredictably, Shashwatโ€™s dancing feet and sharp movement at the crease looked more like a choreographed routine than a batting innings as he adjusted brilliantly to the conditions.

At the other end, Paul Bartlett played the perfect supporting role with a gritty 31, soaking up pressure and helping rebuild after early wickets. His gigantic six over the leg side was one of the moments of the day and gave Hillheadโ€™s innings a much-needed injection of momentum.

Of course, no innings is complete without a little drama, and Shashwat eventually gifted his wicket away in what can only be described as a complete brain fade โ€” holing out to an absolute moon ball after doing all the hard work. The ultimate batterโ€™s crime.

The late acceleration from Krushnesh Patel and Anand Kumar pushed Hillhead to a very defendable 186/4, with both batters finishing unbeaten.

If the batting was entertaining, the fielding effort was downright electric.

Alex Hawley set the tone in the field with relentless energy and intensity, while the entire side backed up every ball as if the cup depended on it. One standout moment came after a dropped catch, when Krushnesh Patel instantly redeemed the situation with a rocket throw that caught Rajitha Kodithuwakku Arachchi short and swung momentum straight back Hillheadโ€™s way.

Behind the stumps, Ramzan Mohammed was equally sharp, producing a clever stumping to remove Faheem Naidoo and keeping the pressure firmly on Helensburgh throughout.

With the ball, Hillhead were ruthless.

Shashwat produced one of the deliveries of the day to dismiss Cameron White โ€” a toe-crushing yorker that gave the batter absolutely no chance.

Meanwhile, Isaac Howell delivered a masterclass in top-of-off-stump bowling. His relentless accuracy earned him four wickets, including two absolute peaches that ripped through Helensburghโ€™s top order and left the visitors shell-shocked at 21/5.

Kesh Soni then piled on the frustration with a miserly spell that completely squeezed the life out of the chase. His accuracy and control never allowed Helensburgh to build any momentum, forcing mistakes and tightening Hillheadโ€™s grip on the game with every over.

Despite a fighting half-century from Helensburgh skipper Caelan Lang, Hillhead never loosened their grip on the contest, eventually bowling the visitors out for 91 to seal an emphatic all-round victory and a perfect start to their cup campaign.

Our ball sponsors for this weekend of cricket at Hughenden are Colin & Susan Rutherford - the parents of Stephen. Already, Stephen has "racked up" over 25 years at HCC having first arrived as a 7 year old! His most memorable game was in 2012 when he took a hat trick in a First Eleven win over Galloway ending up with a 5 wicket haul. His favourite players (to date!) at Hillhead are Nick Guinane (a former overseas pro from Australia) and Jonny Horn. We thank Colin & Susan for Stephen and for their generosity to the Club!
