MATCH REPORT 🟥⬛

On Friday night, Glenrothes Strollers Over 35s were in East Region Cup action as they welcomed Dundee East 35s to Beath High School on a fine summer evening. Strollers were expecting a difficult tie against an experienced Dundee side, but the lads produced one of their best performances of the season.

The match started brilliantly for Strollers, with the lads really taking the game to Dundee from the opening whistle. The first 10 minutes saw some slick passing and controlled possession, and we got the breakthrough when Andrew Adam was brought down inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Ian Hepburn stepped up and expertly dispatched it to give Strollers the lead.

Just five minutes later, we doubled our advantage. Kev McCreadie got on the end of a great through ball and, although his first effort was saved well by the Dundee keeper, Kev showed great composure to finish the rebound and make it 2-0.

Strollers continued to play some excellent football, with the makeshift back four of Andy Gourly, Ritchie Crawford, Mikey Millar and Scotty McAndrew dealing comfortably with anything Dundee could throw at them, while also helping the team retain possession.

The defence was brilliantly protected throughout the first half by a midfield masterclass from Hepi, Andy Adam and Fras Robinson, who all put in a tremendous shift. Meanwhile, the threat of Ian Young and Kev McCreadie on the wings was a joy to watch at times.

Andrew Adam then grabbed our third when his sliced finish somehow found its way into the top corner!

On the stroke of half time, the lads made it four, and it was a brilliant finish from Ian Hepburn, who produced a superb left-footed lob from the edge of the box to round off what was probably the best half of football this team has played all season!

HALF TIME
🔴 Glenrothes Strollers 4-0 Dundee East ⚫

The second half started in spectacular fashion, with Strollers showing no signs of taking their foot off the gas.

Just minutes into the half, Ian Young scored an absolute cracker from around 30 yards, sailing over the keeper and into the top corner! 🚀

Goal of the season contender! 😉

Just one minute later, Andrew Adam picked up the ball straight from kick-off and drove at the Dundee defence before unleashing a brilliant long-range effort which flew past the helpless Dundee keeper.

A lethal six-minute start to the second half was rounded off when the tireless Fras Robinson calmly slotted the ball past the keeper after a high press won possession back, giving Fras a thoroughly deserved goal.

At this point, Strollers were producing one of their finest performances in quite some time!

Dundee did manage to grab a consolation goal when a deflected shot flew in off Mikey Millar, much to the frustration of the Strollers defence, who were desperate to keep that clean sheet! 🤬

This led to a slight lull in the game, and although Strollers remained completely dominant, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net for a spell.

Blair Sutherland went close, but his difficult header went just over the bar.

The lads finally sealed the win with 10 minutes remaining after another superb team goal. Craig Arthur played a brilliant ball out wide, and some excellent play between Ian Young and Scott McAndrew saw Young swing a brilliant cross into the box. Kev McCreadie rose highest at the back post to head home and complete the scoring in style! 👏

⭐ MAN OF THE MATCH — IAN YOUNG

A constant threat down the left wing, Youngy produced some brilliant deliveries into the box and was setting up chance after chance throughout the game. His work rate was excellent, and he capped off a top-class performance with an absolute screamer.

This was a fantastic performance from the whole team and, for the first time in weeks, it felt like we were all completely on the same page.

It was genuinely difficult to fault anyone in the squad. Everyone contributed, everyone worked for each other, and most importantly, it was great to see the team enjoying their football again.

Some of the football on display was excellent at times, and this performance gives us plenty to build on going forward. 💪⚽

We’re back in action in two weeks’ time when we return to cup action against Downfield from Dundee, which should be another great game.

MATCH REPORT

On a fine summer’s evening, Glenrothes Strollers Over 35s welcomed Cowdenbeath Central Over 35s to Overstenton for a highly anticipated league game.

After a disappointing defeat to Kinross two weeks ago, Strollers were determined to bounce back, and with another strong squad selected, the team were ready to go.

The first 15 minutes were somewhat cagey, with both teams taking time to figure each other out. After that opening spell, Strollers began to take control, with the impressive midfield trio of Ian Hepburn, Fraser Robinson and returning Andrew Adam seeing much more of the ball.

Ian Hepburn came incredibly close to giving Strollers the lead when his audacious overhead kick was unfortunately cleared off the line — accidentally by Adam Drummond! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

The pressure continued, though, and Strollers took the lead after 20 minutes. Kev McCreadie played in Iain Speirs, who showed great composure to cut the ball back to the incoming Ian Hepburn, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net with a superb finish.

Strollers had a great chance to double their lead soon after. Some brilliant pressure from McCreadie created an opportunity for Spiero, but he dragged his shot just past the post.

Cowdenbeath came back into the game for a five-minute spell and almost found an equaliser, but another player returning from injury, Pete Kerridge, produced an outstanding save to protect Strollers’ narrow lead going into half-time.

Half Time
Glenrothes Strollers 1-0 Cowdenbeath Central

The second half began with Strollers back on the front foot and moving the ball around well. However, Cowdenbeath always carried a threat and began to build some pressure of their own.

They enjoyed around 15 minutes of possession and control, although they never really tested Pete in the Strollers goal.

Strollers then freshened things up, bringing on some fresh legs which helped with the attack, defensively the lads looked solid throughout the match with Forbes, O’Leary and Drummond all excelling at the back. It was brilliant to see some of the boys back on the pitch, and their introduction helped Strollers regain control of the match.

Richie Crawford made a brilliant run into the box and looked to have been fouled, but the referee didn’t see it and waved play on.

Strollers deservedly eventually got their second goal. Some really good play from Blair Sutherland released Fraser Robinson, who delivered a fantastic ball into the box, allowing another sub to make his mark, Gwyn Edwards produced an excellent finish at the back post and sealed the win.

Full Time
Glenrothes Strollers 2-0 Cowdenbeath Central

⭐ MAN OF THE MATCH – IAN HEPBURN

A superb performance from Hepi, who completely dominated the midfield against some high-quality opposition. He covered every blade of grass, dictated play and grabbed a vital opening goal. Fully deserved!

Really top performance from the whole team tonight and, for the first time in weeks, it genuinely felt like everything clicked and the team functioned really well.

It was also brilliant to see so many players returning from injury. This team is going through a new phase at the moment, but if anything, it looks like we’re building something special once again! 🔴⚫️

We’re back in action in two weeks’ time when we face Dundee East in the cup. 🏆

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the team last night — it was very much appreciated.

MATCH REPORT

On a fine Friday night, our Glenrothes Strollers Over 35s were back in competitive action after a lengthy spell without a game. The lads faced a tough league fixture against Kinross colts over 35s, who have impressed in their first season in the league.

Strollers couldn’t have asked for a better start and were playing some excellent football. We created three fantastic chances in the opening 15 minutes but just couldn’t find the breakthrough, and unfortunately that would come back to haunt us.

Against the run of play, Kinross took the lead with a close-range header. Ten minutes later they doubled their advantage in controversial circumstances. Gwynn was completely taken out by a Kinross player and, after getting back to his feet, put in what looked like a fair challenge of his own. Much to everyone’s bemusement, the referee awarded Kinross a free kick instead, which was brilliantly curled into the top corner from around 25 yards.

Despite the setbacks, Strollers continued to play some really good football and create chances. However, we were dealt another huge blow when Kinross were awarded what looked like a very harsh penalty. Ian O’Leary made a perfectly timed sliding challenge to clear the ball, only for the Kinross attacker to continue his run and make contact with Ian after the clearance. Somehow the referee pointed to the spot, and Kinross made no mistake from the penalty to make it 3-0. Sometimes football can be the most frustrating sport in the world! 😂

To the lads’ credit, heads never dropped and we grabbed a deserved goal just before half-time when the impressive Stephen Forbes produced an excellent finish.

Half-time
Glenrothes Strollers 1-3 Kinross

The second half couldn’t have started any worse as we conceded a really cheap goal that all but ended any hopes of a comeback.

To our credit, we kept battling and continued to create opportunities. Lee White went close when he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who produced a fine save. Ian Hepburn struck the post, while Adam Drummond fired narrowly over from close range.

We did manage to pull another goal back around 15 minutes from time, and it was undoubtedly the goal of the night. Ian Spiers started a superb move that featured some excellent football down the left-hand side. Adam Drummond delivered a perfect cross into the box, allowing Spiero to finish the move he had started with a brilliant close-range header.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as another fiercely competitive game slipped away from us.

Full-time
Glenrothes Strollers 2-4 Kinross

Man of the Match

Adam Drummond

A superb performance at left-back. Adam constantly made himself available, got up and down the pitch with some lung-bursting runs, defended brilliantly throughout, and certainly didn’t deserve to end up on the losing side.

Another really tough one for the team to take because, arguably, we were the better side on the night and played the better football. Unfortunately, a few key decisions went against us, we didn’t get the rub of the green, and on another night the result could easily have been different. One of those nights! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Fair play to Kinross on the win, and thanks for coming back for a few pints after the game. We wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

As for us, we’ll regroup, stick together, and go again.

Finally, a huge thank you to our valued sponsors — Thistle Systems, Pinkertons Lounge & Function Suite, Alan McIntee Limited, and Andrew Stewart Joinery — for their continued support throughout the season.
