💚 THE KNEE DROP – SMALL MOVE, BIG BENEFITS 💚
We practised this lovely Pilates exercise in my Bamford class today, and it’s a great example of how sometimes the smallest movements can be doing much more than you realise.
The Knee Drop is all about control and pelvic stability.
Lying on your back with both knees bent, you slowly allow ONE knee to open out towards the side.
Sounds easy? Here’s the challenge… 👇
The opposite knee needs to stay pointing straight up at 12 o’clock, while your pelvis stays completely still and level.
The aim isn’t to see how far you can get your knee towards the floor. In fact, the moment your opposite knee or pelvis starts to move, you’ve gone far enough.
✨ WHY DO WE DO IT?
The Knee Drop helps to:
💚 Build pelvic stability
💚 Strengthen and engage the deeper core muscles
💚 Improve hip mobility and control
💚 Improve body awareness and coordination
💚 Support better movement through the hips and lower back
💚 Teach your core to stabilise your body while your legs move independently
And that last one is particularly important because we need this control in everyday life — when we’re walking, climbing stairs, changing direction and moving from one leg to another.
So remember…
It’s not about how far you can drop your knee — it’s about how still you can keep everything else.
Small movement. Lots going on underneath! 💚
