At 7.42am on a Thursday morning, the dew still clings to the short grass at a public golf course just outside Bristol. The first tee is occupied by a single woman in wireless headphones. She swings gently, checks the wind, then walks forward in silence. There is no four ball. No banter. There is no pressure.
Her name is Molly. She is 31 years old and works in digital publishing. She plays golf alone every week.
"Solo golf has become my nervous system reset," she says, placing a ball on the tee. "I am not here to win. I am here to breathe."
This is not the golf of tradition. It is a quiet cultural shift unfolding on fairways across the UK. Golf is being reimagined not as a game of competition but as a gentle ritual. For a growing number of players, solo golf is becoming a deeply personal form of self care.
A silent surge on British courses
Solo golf is growing. England Golf reports that more than one in five tee time bookings this spring were made by solo players.

Golf might still conjure images of pristine greens and hushed commentary, but England Golf is determined to rewrite that script, one tiki torch at a time.
In a bold move to make the sport more accessible to families and young people, England Golf has teamed up with Paradise Island Adventure Golf at Manchester’s Trafford Centre to launch Tiki Tips: Putting in Paradise. The new initiative forms part of the organisation’s wider Family Golf Month campaign and is aimed squarely at first-timers, curious kids, and holidaying parents looking for something fun and active to do over the summer.
Priced at just £10 per child, the coached sessions blend tropical-themed mini golf with real putting lessons from England Golf’s Community Golf Instructors. There is no need for clubs, kit or any experience, just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure.
We are not just teaching putting skills, said Adam McAlister of England Golf.

By the time Scottie Scheffler hoisted the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush on Sunday evening, most fans watching at home had already clocked the breakout star of the week. Suspended high above the 18th green, a four-cable rig known as Spidercam delivered sweeping, cinematic views more familiar to Premier League fans than golf traditionalists. For the first time in the history of The Open, golf had gone airborne.
This was no gimmick. The £300,000 installation was a year in the making and required complex engineering to make it compatible with a links course. Unlike most Open venues, Portrush lacks a traditional clubhouse behind the 18th, meaning the camera could be mounted without obstructing player movement or crowd flow. The result was a visual feast, drawing comparisons to Netflix documentaries and video game realism.

Nike makes its Amazon comeback
Nike returns to Amazon after a six-year break. The brand hopes to win back fans and boost sales in the US. Golfers should take note.
Amazon shoppers will soon see official Nike listings again. These will include a wider range of products than before. Sadly for Uk and Euro Nike fans, the rollout is starting in the United States only.
This is a major shift for Nike’s strategy. In 2019, the company pulled out of Amazon altogether. Now, it’s reversing course to reach more customers. The news comes on the same day that the swish brand announced a price rise across the board on all of its products.
Why Nike left Amazon in the first place
Nike quit Amazon in 2019 due to rising concerns about counterfeits. The brand wanted tighter control over its online presence. That meant selling through its own site and stores.
Other premium brands followed suit. Birkenstock also ditched Amazon for similar reasons.

The Nike Trump Tariff price increases are here! It is the latest big name sports brand to announce price increases that analysts say are Trump Tariff related. Nike has announced plans to increase prices across a range of its products from 1 June 2025. The move affects everything from clothing to footwear in the UK and US. And yes, that includes your favourite Nike golf shoes and gear.
While Nike says this is part of “seasonal planning”, timing suggests a different story. President Trump’s tariff threats are putting pressure on global brands. And that pressure might soon be passed onto your golf wardrobe.
Nike Golf hit by Trump Tariff price increases
If you're eyeing a new pair of Nike golf shoes, now might be the time to act. From Sunday, most Nike trainers costing over $100 in the USA will see a $10 price rise. That roughly converts to an £8 hike for those of us in the UK.
Clothing and golf accessories are also getting dearer.
