Every few months thereโs a new โthis is it.โ
The supplement that fixes everything.
Cold plunges.
Red light therapy.
Grounding mats.
The perfect mattress.
Greens powders.
Peptides.
The 5am routine.
Applying 30 pegs to your face (joke).
Apparently this one thing is going to sort your back, your energy, your mood, your hormones, your waistline and your life.
Maybe.
But only if your entire life is dialled inโฆ except for that one thing.
Letโs zoom out.
If youโre consistently:
Sleeping well (quality and quantity)
Managing stress
Staying hydrated
Eating a balanced, nutritious diet
Exercising regularly and progressively
โฆbut youโre sat on your ๐ all day long?
Then yes โ moving more through the day could absolutely be the missing piece.
If everything looks solidโฆ except stress?
And you start cold plunging.
What are you actually doing?
Youโre carving out time.
Youโre focusing on breathing.
Youโre regulating your nervous system.
Youโre stepping away from your phone.
Youโre forcing presence.
Itโs not necessarily the cold water thatโs the magic.
Itโs the pause.
So in that case, that โone thingโ might feel transformational.
But itโs filling a gap.
If you generally look after yourself but youโre not exercising?
Thatโs the missing piece.
If everything looks good but youโre sleeping 5โ6 broken hours per night?
Thatโs the missing piece.
If youโre active but:
Drinking regularly
Eating poorly
Stressed constantly
Sleeping terribly
Itโs going to take more than:
A weekly Pilates class
A massage
A Shakti mat
A cold shower
A new wearable

A fancy recovery gadget
To change how you actually feel.
Hereโs the uncomfortable truth.
If your lifestyle is chaotic, no single biohack is going to rescue you.
Not Pilates.
Not cold plunges.
Not supplements.
Not a massage once a month.
You donโt need a magic bullet.
You need consistency across the basics.
Now hereโs where Iโll slightly contradict myself.
Pilates might be the one thing you need.
Not because itโs magical.
But because it can tick a lot of boxes at once.
When I started Pilates, I was stressed.
My back was killing me.
My nervous system was in overdrive.
I was living life โprotectingโ my back.
Pilates calmed everything down.
It helped me move again.
Made me more flexible and mobile.
Gave me better control of my body.
Gave me confidence to move again.
Helped me handle stress.
I became more aware of my body.
I moved more through the day โ even with a desk job and long hours in the car.
It addressed a lot of things I needed at once.
Was my lifestyle perfect?
No.
My drinking still needed sorting โ especially when I got back into rugby ๐บ๐
My sleep hygiene wasnโt brilliant.
But Pilates was life changing because it improved multiple pillars at the same time.
Not because it was trendy.
Not because it was one of the latest fads.
Because it built consistency across the foundations.
If youโre feeling stiff, tired, sore or stuckโฆ
Before chasing the next โholy grailโ, zoom out.
Which pillar is actually missing?
Sleep?
Stress?
Nutrition?
Daily movement?
Progressive exercise?

I am running a charity fancy dress fundraiser on Saturday 27th December to raise funds for the Cirencester Opportunity Group. 45 mins from 9AM.

Most people think recovery means โrest.โ
But if you stop completely, your body doesnโt adapt โ it just deconditions. We get weaker, tighter, more sensitive to pain, and, well, probably more unhappy.
Here are the 3 golden rules I share often:
1๏ธโฃ Rehab ๐ถ๐ graded exercise.
Start small and build up. Thatโs literally what rehab means โ graded exposure. Donโt jump from zero to ๐ฏ. Build slowly, build strong. Listen to your body.
2๏ธโฃ Donโt rest โ scale back. (this is one of the hardest for people to understand)
If something flares up, you donโt stop. You adapt. Reduce the intensity, the duration, the range, or the load โ but keep moving.
Movement is medicine, stillness rarely is (and definitely not beyond a day or 2).
3๏ธโฃ Look after your lifestyle. The missing piece.
Recovery isnโt just about exercise & movement.
Stress management, nutrition, hydration, daily movement, and ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฝ โ these are all absolutely key recovery tools, and key to health and wellbeing.
You donโt need perfection, just small improvements across the board. They add up fast.
When you apply these three together โ consistent movement, progression, and balanced lifestyle โ your body learns to trust itself again. Thatโs when things really start to change.

I get it.
Life isnโt a peaceful pond โ itโs a frigging tornado, and you only get the eye of the storm for a moment.
Iโve got two kids under five, a business, and Iโm still trying to keep my own training, mobility and sanity intact.
Life is mental. Thereโs always something kicking off.
And hereโs the funny thingโฆ my retired members say the same.
They stop work and somehow get busier.
