⚽️ Bishops Cleeve U10 vs Wittington U10 ⚽️

League Game

Bishops Cleeve and Wittington played out a highly competitive 50-minute league match, with both teams showing plenty of determination and commitment throughout.

Bishops Cleeve opened the scoring from a 10th-minute corner, although the decision should have been given as a goal kick. Lamell responded in the 19th minute with a well-taken goal.

The second half remained closely contested, with both sides creating opportunities. Wittington dominated large parts of the game and created numerous chances, but were unable to convert them. Bishops Cleeve also found the net again as the game continued to go from end to end.

Special mention to Ollie, who was terrific at the back, while Lamell displayed excellent 1v1 ability and forward play. It was a great performance from Lamell today.

All the boys played really well, gave their all and contributed to an entertaining game for the neutrals.

⚽ WPYFC U9 Bluebells v Barnwood United ⚽️

The girls took on Barnwood United in a game that saw plenty of hard work, with some excellent individual moments, and plenty of opportunities to learn and improve.

The game started very evenly, with the ball going from end to end and both teams battling hard. Our girls worked well to compete for the ball, and neither team was able to break the deadlock.

As the game went on, we started to give them too much space and stopped moving towards the ball. We stood off their players rather than closing them down, which gave them time and room to create chances. Unfortunately, this allowed them to find the back of the net and build a lead.

At times, we needed to defend with more determination and work harder together to protect our goal. Our communication wasn’t where it needed to be, and our passing lacked some accuracy, which made it difficult to build our own attacks.

To their credit, the girls continued to battle and finished the game with much more fight and determination. We created some really positive opportunities, with some great runs from the team.

The final score was disappointing, but there were definitely positives to take from the game. When we moved towards the ball, competed strongly and worked together, we showed some really good football.

The main things we need to work on are communication, accurate passing, moving towards the ball and closing down opponents. We need to be braver in our movement and not give the opposition so much time and space.

There were moments when the girls showed real fight and determination, and that’s something we need to build on going forward.

Keep working hard, keep supporting each other, and we’ll continue to improve! 💪⚽

⚽️ WPYFC U9 Blues 🔵 Leckhampton Spitfires 🛩️⚽️

A flying start from the boys (no pun intended) as we raced into a two goal lead early doors with a couple of great strikes from Fin and Reg.

The boys confidence grew and they played some great passing football, switching play at times and making full use of the width of the pitch. We continued to apply pressure and Georgie then hit another peach (he's having his own goal of the season competition) to give us a commanding lead.

As the game went on we continued to defend resolutely and create chances down the other end before Daniel added a couple more.

Another really pleasing all round team performance and a clean sheet the cherry on the top. 👏

⚽️ WPYFC U9 ⚪️ v Cheltenham Saracens 🔵 ⚽️

A performance of mixed fortunes for the team this morning.

At times, we displayed superb passing football and showed real quality going forward. However, a lack of communication and defensive work rate ultimately cost us. Moving forward, we need to ensure we defend as a unit to minimize goals conceded, which will give us a stronger foundation to play the attacking football we know we are capable of.

Despite a tough scoreline, the team showed fantastic character and work rate right until the final whistle, reward with some excellent goals. We will continue to build on these positives and work on the areas for improvement during training.

Well done to everyone for their effort—let’s keep up the hard work!

⚽️ U7 RR v Cheltenham Saracens ⚽️

Huge congratulations to all the players on a fantastic set of matches yesterday! Across the board, the work rate, heart, and determination was exceptional.

The focus on passing in recent training sessions really shone through today. The teams created brilliant scoring opportunities using smart through-balls and rapid link-up play.

There was some excellent bravery in goal across all matches, with goalkeepers coming off their lines confidently and initiating quick attacks from the back.

We will be continuing to sharpen our spatial awareness and vision, alongside reinforcing touchline boundaries and playing strictly to the referee's whistle and not carrying on.

Raag - Superb display in goal and as our last line of defence during our matches.

Kaz- superb all round play, dribbling and attacking and defensive work. Great moment was dribbling across the whole pitch to score.

⚽️ U5 Training Report ⚽️

Great turnout for our U5s this morning with a full squad in force and ready to go!

Today’s focus was all about movement and changing direction. We started off working on our movement, and once the footballs came out, the team really hit their stride and grew stronger throughout the session. Plenty of giggles from the sidelines kept the energy fun and light!

Player of the Week: A massive well done to Cass! Cass showed fantastic work with the ball and demonstrated brilliant skills changing direction during both our training and matches. Super effort!

⚽️ Quedgeley v WPYFC U9 Bluebells 🔵⚽️

So, our first match of the season — and what a way to start, taking on a super strong Quedgeley side! We knew it was going to be a tough one, especially with two new girls joining us over the summer and playing their first ever league match. Talk about a baptism of fire! 🔥

We knew from the start that we were going to have to work hard, and to their credit, that’s exactly what the girls did in the first two quarters. They worked tirelessly to disrupt Quedgeley’s play and fought hard in their 1v1s, continuing to battle even as the goals started to go against us. 💪

The third quarter proved a little tougher. Whether it was the scoreline starting to get to us or simply fatigue from our first league match of the season, we struggled to match the intensity of the opposition and conceded our most goals of the game.

But what we were really proud of was the way the girls responded in the fourth quarter. They picked their heads back up, found their fight again and brought the game we know they can play. 🙌 We conceded our fewest goals of the match in that final quarter, which is a real testament to the girls refusing to back down and taking the game back to Quedgeley right until the final whistle.

We’re chalking this one up as a big learning curve. It was never going to be an easy first match, and our new players certainly had a baptism of fire! 🔥 But every single girl worked their socks off, kept going and, most importantly, didn’t let the final score get them down.

There’s plenty to take away, plenty to learn from and plenty to build on. We’re incredibly proud of them all. 💙👏

Isla absolutely ran her socks off today and had a fantastic game. She was thrown in at the deep end, moving into defence for a quarter, but she battled hard throughout and never stopped working.

For her first ever league match, she did amazingly well. What a performance, Isla! 👏💙

First game for some in the team.

A good opening game and a great result to get us going.

Defence was pretty solid for the most part and Isaac earned his POTM for his role in that and driving forward when he had the chance.

Everyone worked hard, some lessons to take away which is expected from a new group but two great goals from Charlie gave us the result.

⚽️ Dursley Town Girls Vixens v WPYFC U11 Bluebells ⚽️

A very well played game today under tough circumstances. With only a bare 7 being available after illness and absences, the girls gave it their absolute all. For a second ever league match I think they can go home proud of themselves.

They didn’t shy away from the challenge and launched some lovely attacks down the wing, we were unfortunately not able to get the finishing touch in the box. The girls showed amazing team work to work together to allow players to rest in the less demanding positions while those full of energy did the running.

Their coach commended our team play and defending along with our physicality, not being afraid to get stuck in.

With pure grit and determination Celia got really stuck in today, closing players down out wide to stop the ball coming in. making last ditch tackles to stop the ball coming to the goal keeper. She even was able to launch some counter attacks for us from the back. Brilliant performance today

With her twisting and turning she gave the other team a challenged for the whole of the match and was unlucky not to get herself a goal. The other team recognised this and voted them their POTM

⚽️ WPYFC U10s v Leckhampton Merlin’s ⚽️

League game

A strong and positive performance from Whittington saw the team secure a deserved victory over.

Whittington started brightly and quickly took control of the game, with Archie finishing well and contributing strongly defensively. Roman then produced an excellent solo run from his own half before finishing brilliantly.

Leckhampton responded with pressure and managed to pull one back, but Whittington remained composed. The second half saw Whittington continue to create chances, with Issac finishing two breakaway opportunities and Jaylen providing two assists.

Leckhampton added another during a spell of pressure, but Whittington defended well, with Ollie making several important clearances and Michael making a key save. Despite a scrappy finish as tiredness set in, Whittington stayed organised and managed the game well to secure the victory.
