One of the most difficult aspects of a tbi has to do with the disinihibition it causes. Changes to your personality, where your social inhibitors that stop you from embarrassing yourself and others, no longer function as they used to. If you were an introverted personality before, this sudden excelleration to the opposite extreme can be a bit of a double edge sword. Initially, you welcome this new found freedom to express yourself as you would never of dreamed of before but the novelty can soon wear off. The downside of this is the frustration it can cause to yourself and others. The embarrassment and hurt this causes is like being saddled to a wild horse. Speaking metaphorically, it 'bolts' without warning, throwing you off balance, desaddling you. You end up constantly hurting yourself and others. This adds fuel to the fires of depression which slowly but surely erodes your will to carry on. I speak from experience. The trick is not to give up. Like judo, you can learn to use this 'opponent's force' against itself, rather than let it dictate to you how your life is going to be from now on. Does anyone else know what I mean by this or would like to share how you have dealt with this aspect?
