💥LONG TERM SUSTAINABLE GOALS💥

The individuals behaviours that provide the fastest results aren’t always the best choices when we’re talking about long term success

The reality is that hard work, discipline and intensity will get you better results in the short term.. BUT

If you had take 2 people and had 1 of them training extremely hard daily and in a large caloric deficit and the other person training 3-5 times per week and balancing their caloric expenditure to near maintenance with emphasis on food quality- Person 1 will make the most significant amount of changes to their body composition and metabolic changes after a period of say 4-6 weeks..

However, if you was to check in with person 1 and person 2 in say a year or two, person 2 ( the balanced one) will always be better. Being consistent, balanced and smart is always the option to take especially if you want to enjoy the process and make it more of a lifestyle change not just a quick fix for Ibiza then binge straight after you return🤷🏽‍♂️ the Hard and heavy person 1 will just burnout, plateau and not enjoy what they’re doing which just leads to failure in the long run.

Morale of the story.. if you want a Gin/beer and a pizza on a Saturday night after a week of training hard and eating well just have one😜

5 Tips for Lockdown to help you keep on track...

1. Do at least 1 hour of exercise daily and monitor your daily step count.. whether that be a home workout, taking the dog/kids for a walk, run/cycle etc. It’s so easy to allow this period to just be a holiday and binge but when everything returns to normal do you really want to go back to square one🤷🏽‍♂️ this for me is more important not just on physical level but more mentally especially when some of you may have lost jobs/businesses etc..

2. Tracking calories! This isn’t something we can keep up everyday on a long term basis but even for a week or two it help you understand where you’re going wrong in your diet and make improvement where necessary (I could go on and on here but I won’t) 😂

3. Implement plans/structure to your days- This is majorly key in any area of life as without it you’re just simply hoping for the bests and going round in circles.. set yourself a weekly planner and set a day/time where you will be doing any type of exercise of which I named in step 1 to keep you accountable

4. Time - the biggest factor and excuse I hear from people is time.. well now most of us have far more of this on our hands it has never been easier to get in shape as you now have time to prep and plan your meals and exercise. If you’re still failing in the same patterns you were never lacking time, just discipline🤷🏽‍♂️ (the truth hurts) 😂

5. Vitamin D - This gets overlooked so much but take advantage of the weather we’ve been having and get outside as much as you can (if you have a garden☝🏽) as Vitamin D is crucial for our bones, hair, teeth and even muscle contractions! Find yourself a decent podcast/book or even just music and it will keep you uplifted and in such a more positive mindset!

One of the biggest obstacles for people in the gym is trying to lose bodyfat/weight and here are 5 common reasons why you may be struggling to see results..

1. Not tracking what you’re eating and your daily calorie intake.
- I suggest using a food diary or app (MyFitnessPal) to ensure you are keeping yourself within a calorie deficit (consuming less calories than you’re expending)

2. Not enough exercise/movement
- simply doing 1 or 2 sessions a week here and there will not get you to where you want to be especially if you’re in a sedentary job (office based etc.) and not hurting your steps

3. Plan/structure
- This is crucial in making results happen as this will allow you to visibly see progress, remain consistent and give you confidence in what you’re trying to achieve. Without consistency and knowledge it will be very difficult for you to achieve your fat loss goal

4. Eating too less or too much
- This is something that is very common where you may think starving yourself and eating 2 meals a day will be the way to go however, this is not sustainable.. what will happen is your metabolism will slow down as your body tries to conserve more energy. This is where you get a spike in cravings due to leptin levels dropping (an appetite hormone).

-Eating too much
This is done by simply not tracking your meals and portion quantities as well as not including “bad snacks” you had in between those meals.. this all mounts up more than you may think.

5. Training & Intensity
- If you’re someone who just does light cardio for 45-60mins a couple times a week then maybe try mixing it up with some free weight/resistance machine workouts too. It’s all about finding what you enjoy and what type of workouts will keep you consistent week in week out rather than a chore. This will help massively for fat loss and improve body composition and just more enjoyable in general. Point being stick to a plan you enjoy and the results will follow 🤷🏼‍♂️
