Last night our club hosted the magnificent riders from the Doddie Weir foundation as they ride from Melrose in Scotland to Dublin on Doddie's Triple Crown 2026. Yesterday they rode from Leeds to Gloucester and spent the night at our club. Club Captain Maureen Richards-Smart and Secretary Sara Shortland handed over a cheque to the riders and this morning cooked them breakfast before the riders left on the next leg of the charity ride to Pembroke. We wish them well on this great charity event and was a privilege to host them on their journey.

A look back over the past week for Caer-Glow and a mix of results. Last Tuesday our ladies were in action at home to Sir Thomas Rich's in the league, a tight match ended in our ladies winning one rink and losing the other. Caer - Glow lost 31- 23 in shots and 6 - 2 in points. Thursday night was a Glevum league match at home to our rivals Co-Op and it was a turnaround to the earlier match in the season. Caer-Glow lost 93 shots to 62 and by 7 points to 2. On Saturday we had a great afternoon of bowls away to Frampton, winning 3 rinks, drawing 1 rink and losing the other with the final shot count being 78 - 67 to Caer - Glow. This week coming, our ladies are playing their final league game tonight away to Bishops Cleeve B and will be looking to finish the season on a high and leap frog Pineholt who are currently top of the league 53 points to Caer - Glow who are second on 52. Thursday night is a Glevum fixture away to Pineholt where Caer - Glow will be looking to bounce back from last weeks defeat. The weekend is a busy one of bowls, with the Captain V President fancy dress day on Saturday. Sunday sees two matches, the men are away in the penultimate Sunday morning league to Wotton with a 10am start then the afternoon sees Caer- Glow welcome Tetbury for a friendly.

Past week of bowls at Caer-Glow saw some great results. Last Tuesday our ladies were at home to Tewkesbury B and not only won both rinks but won by 42 shots to 15 and received 8 points. The ladies are sitting proudly on top of the table with two games left to go. Thursday saw us visit local rivals Winget for a Glevum league match. In what was an entertaining and sometimes trying game with part of the green a little bare in places we were able to complete the double over them, by winning 89 shots to 73 and earning 7 points to their 2 points. We had just the one friendly this weekend with a trip to Suffolk Square in Cheltenham. Another fun afternoon of bowls saw Caer-Glow triumph 3 rinks to 2 and winning 85 shots to 75 for the day. This week we have three matches, tonight our ladies are away to Sir Thomas Rich's in the ladies league and it's top verses 2nd in the table as Caer-Glow sit 4 points ahead of them. Thursday's Glevum league is another interesting game as we host Co-Op who we share the green with. We won the 1st match earlier in the season and will be hoping to do the double over them. Caer Glow are sitting 6th out of 8th in the table and with just three games left would be looking to move up the table with another win. This Saturday see's us travel down the A38 for an afternoon friendly away to Frampton Bowls club.

Another week of bowls completed and it was a busy one for Caer-Glow. Wednesday afternoon we welcomed local team Winget to Sissons Road for a friendly triples match. A great afternoon of bowls ended in defeat for us. There was a quick turn around as we entertained St Thomas Rich's at home on Thursday night in the Glevum League. Unfortunately it wasn't going to be our night as we lost 57 - 79 in shots and ended the night earning 1 point to St Thomas Rich's 8. The weekend was soon upon us and we ventured to Coleford for a Saturday afternoon friendly. It was a fantastic day of bowling and we won 3 rinks out of the 5 as well as in shots. We had a couple of birthday's to celebrate, on the Friday it was Derek's and Saturday it was Debbie's. Sunday was a busy day, our men had an early start in the Sunday League away to Cam Mills which ended in winning 1 rink but unfortunately lost the other one. It was a loss of 40 - 33 in shots, we got 2 points for the one rink and Cam earnt 4 points for there win and winning by shots. The afternoon was a friendly away to Bredon and despite a short break for a heavy downfall and waiting for the green to dry we enjoyed a great game of bowls with lots of twists and turns. Out of the 5 rinks, two were drawn and we lost by just 5 shots over the afternoon. Our valiant ladies went to Winget for their County senior 4's final to play Olveston. It wasn't to be their afternoon as Olveston came away with the win. What Kay, Maureen, Wendy and Pauline have achieved is incredible and should be so proud of themselves as we are of them. This week sees a little bit of a quieter one, with just 3 fixtures. Tomorrow night our ladies are in league action at home to Tewkesbury B. Thursday's Glevum league see us travel to local club Winget where we hope to carry on from when we played them at home earlier in the season, back on 29th May where we won 92 shots to 54 and 8 points to 1. Saturday is a friendly away to Cheltenham Bowls Club at Suffolk Square which should make for an interesting afternoon of bowls.

A look back on our past fortnight of bowls. Last weekend we hosted our friends from Stroud Bowls Club on the Saturday afternoon for a friendly. Last Sunday morning the men's league had an early start of 9:30am with a visit from Royal Forest of Dean. It was a close match over the 2 rinks and we won 1 rink and lost the other, we won by 38 shots to 32 and got 4 points to RfoD 2 points. It was a quick drink with our visitors before we headed over to Swindon Supermarine for a friendly. Supermarine is a very friendly club and a great set up with a green that can host 7 rinks. The green was wonderful to play on and despite the odd rain shower it didn't seem to change the way the green played. We came away winning 4 rinks out of 5 and Supermarine put on a fantastic tea. The new week started with our ladies away to Churchdown Bowls in the Tuesday League. Our ladies put on a great display and won 1 rink and just lost the other rink. Won by 37 shots to 29 and got 6 points and Churchdown earned 2 points. This result put our ladies back on top of the league. Thursday evening we made the short visit to Barnwood in the Glevum League and because of the heat it was reduced down from 18 ends to 15. Unfortunately it wasn't to be our evening as we lost all 5 rinks and Barnwood won 81 shots to 40 and took all 9 points. There were no matches this weekend, but we have another busy week coming up. Wednesday afternoon we host Winget in a friendly and Thursday evening we have Sir Thomas Rich's in the Glevum League at home. Saturday afternoon we visit the Forest and head to Coleford Bowls Club for a friendly. On Sunday morning our men go to Cam Mills for the Sunday Men's League and then its a visit to Bredon in the afternoon for a friendly.

Huge congratulations to our ladies. Maureen, Kay, Wendy and Pauline won 25-7 in the County Senior 4's semi finals last Sunday against Nailsworth. They are in the final against Olveston at Winget a week on Sunday.

What an interesting week of bowls we had at Caer-Glow last week. On Tuesday evening our ladies went to Cheltenham Whaddon in a top of the table clash and put in an incredible performance to win by 38 shots to 24 and to win 8 points to nil. The ladies are now sitting on top of the Gloucester Ladies Bowls League. On Thursday evening it was the Glevum league and a visit to Gloucester City. Unfortunately the green wasn't in its best shape and had a lot of sand on it, so that made for an interesting match. The rub of the green was most definitely not with us as Caer-Glow went down 113 - 47 shots and lost 9 points to nil. The weekend we hosted Cinderford on Saturday in a friendly and then on Sunday Olveston came to us. Yesterday was a great day for the club as we hosted a county match between Gloucestershire and Devon in which Devon won. This week the ladies are at home to Pineholt in the league, there is no Glevum League on Thursday. The weekend sees a lot of matches, Saturday afternoon our friends from Stroud Bowls Club come to us for a friendly. Sunday morning the men's league is on with a visit from Royal Forest of Dean for an early morning game then it's over to Supermarine, near Swindon for an afternoon friendly.
