Creating a sleep routine for a baby is great for both you and your baby, however, you do not have to.

If you would like to start a sleep Routine you can start by doing the following…

✨Establish a consistent bedtime and nap schedule.
✨Develop a calming bedtime routine, such as a warm bath, gentle massage, and reading a story. ✨Ensure the sleep environment is conducive to rest, with a comfortable flat mattress, dark room and a white noise machine if needed.
✨Respond to your baby’s cues for sleepiness and comfort, and be patient as they adjust to the routine. Consistency and patience are key to helping your baby develop healthy sleep habits.

Transitioning a child from a cot to a bed can be a significant milestone. Here are some tips to help smooth the process:

✨Timing: Consider your child’s readiness. Try not to transition your little one too early. Age 3 onwards is a good age as they have better impulse control!

✨Gradual Approach: Introduce the bed gradually, perhaps by letting your child nap in it first or spend some playtime there.

✨Familiarity: Use familiar bedding or favorite toys to make the bed inviting and comforting.

✨Safety Precautions: Ensure the bed is low to the ground and has guardrails to prevent falls.

✨Consistency: Stick to a bedtime routine to provide stability during the transition.

✨Positive Reinforcement: Praise your child for using the bed, even if it’s just for a short time.

✨Patience: Expect some resistance or setbacks. Stay patient and supportive throughout the process.

What is a sleep regression?

✨Sleep regression refers to a period when a previously well-sleeping baby or toddler experiences a sudden disruption in their sleep patterns. This often occurs around certain developmental milestones, such as learning to crawl or teething. During sleep regression, the child may have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both. It’s a temporary phase, and maintaining a consistent sleep routine can help manage and eventually overcome it.

Are you up multiple times a night with your little one? So whilst there’s absolutely nothing wrong with supporting our babies to sleep whether that be rocking/patting or feeding to sleep (it’s natural and I have been there) it’s sadly likely to be the very reason your are up lots through the night doing these exact things to get your baby back to sleep when they wake.
